Thank you to all of the participants, sponsors, and donors who made the Rekindle the Spirit Grand Giveaway possible again this year. We also want to extend a big thank you to our volunteers who have been such a tremendous help in the front office over the past few days.

This year marks the 12th year of our promotion/event, and the Alger County receipts you've turned in have contributed to over $2.5 million in local spending! We are thrilled to announce that this year, 78 lucky winners took home prizes, totaling $158,200 in local spending. Thank you again for your continued support and participation!

For the Munising downtown businesses, the Munising Downtown Development Authority Business Decorating Contest judging will be happening tomorrow night instead of tonight. Some of the businesses are having a tough time with their decorations because of the wind, so we figured it would be best to keep those people off ladders today!

FYI--Rekindle the Spirit--The event is not being rescheduled. Too many downtown businesses are involved at this point so rescheduling would be very difficult. Our hope is that it will slow down a bit by 5:30 when we start. We did have the wagon rides cancel as they don't want to risk having to haul a horse trailer on slick roads, etc. Our thought and hope is most of the people that do attend and businesses that are hosting activities will be open and many live right in Munising and aren't driving from far. We would suggest though dressing warm!

🧐 Woo, now that is different looking...

When you hear "hair ice", do you think of the frosted tips of '90s heartthrobs? Well, THIS hair ice is a rare phenomenon that occurs from the perfect combination of location, temperature, humidity, and fungi!

One of our rangers spotted this beautiful example of hair ice on Monday morning. Hair ice mostly found between the latitudes of 45 and 55 degrees north on humid, frosty mornings. This ephemeral phenomenon only occurs on rotting wood - scientists think the wispy, hair-like ice filaments are a result of fungi living in the wood. But the exact mechanisms behind the formation of hair ice is still unknown!

As soon as the sun rises, the hair ice quickly melts. Have you ever seen hair ice?
