Good morning friends! As the 2021-22 snowmobile season is officially scheduled to start today we thought we'd give a trail update. They aren't good. The base is wet as is the snow and grooming cannot begin quite yet. I know the desire to go "tear it up" is probably just as exciting for you as it is for us, but the damage that could be done to the trails and/or your sleds is not worth it. Please be safe, considerate, and practice patience. It won't be much longer. ❄

Remember to stay safe when riding the trails this summer.

One of the great things about off-road vehicles is, you can enjoy them year-round. However, spring and summer seasons are when a lot of ORV activity ramps up throughout the state, as trail systems and ORV scramble areas open and people begin their summer vacations.

Our conservation officers manage ORV safety education and enforcement. With that in mind, here are some of the most common violations observed by our officers. Keep these in mind when you're heading out next to have a safe and enjoyable ride on the trails.

🔹 Operating ORVs at excessive speeds.
🔹 Careless or reckless riding.
🔹 No ORV license or trail permit.
🔹 Allowing an unsupervised minor to operate an ORV.
🔹 No ORV safety certificate.
🔹 Riding without a helmet.
🔹 Riding under the influence.
🔹 Riding with more people than the ORV was manufactured for.
🔹 Riding on the wrong side of a road or trail.
🔹 Trespassing or operating in a closed area.

A few years ago Jak and I were privileged enough to work with a man by the name of Ryan Whitmore. He was a dedicated carpenter, a teacher to his core, a loving and devoted husband and father, and so incredibly hilarious! He was one of the few people I've seen match Jak's humor and the results had me rolling and almost incapable of work. His friendship and uplifting words have found all who needed them at the most important moments and all who knew him knew he'd be there for them either physically or in spirit without question. He will definitely be missed by us and so many more.

FRESH SNOW – GREAT TRAILS!
Overall trail conditions are very good with a good amount of fresh new snow and great riding conditions. In general we have a great flat base with trails starting to set properly for us and only a few sugary, icy corners, mainly on Trail 419 in the hills behind Munising. High traffic areas near Wetmore and North of Shingleton are expected to get beat up between grooming runs. Keep the cold weather snow dancing going, Enjoy the Trails and Ride Safe!

Two individuals were able to safely make it off the ice. According to the Alger County Undersheriff, the ice is thin in the area and snowmobilers are advised to stay off the ice.
