Flood Warning in Effect for Cherokee and Clay Counties Until 4 PM

A Flood Warning is in effect until 4 p.m. today for Cherokee and Clay Counties due to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Local law enforcement has reported rising waters that have gone over riverbanks, causing several road closures in the Tusquitee and Hayesville areas. Flooding is happening or expected soon in Andrews, Murphy, Hayesville, Brasstown, Marble, Shooting Creek, Topton, and Culberson.

The warning replaces a previous Flood Advisory and urges drivers to stay off flooded roads. The National Weather Service reminds everyone: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Most flood-related deaths happen in vehicles.
