What a year and how we've grown! I purchased my first condo with my now wife in May of 2019 planning to move to Myrtle Beach with no thought of a business or property rentals. Fast forward to Covid-19, work from home and we're successfully renting our first rental property. Covid-19 is everywhere, people dying, everyone is scared and we're constantly hearing horror stories from other owners and how this is impacting their investment properties. Being new on the scene I didn't have any history to base my property on, but felt we were doing quite well and outperforming many of the people we were talking to. Then out of the blue I have one of those life changing thoughts and immediately started working on building a new business that I knew I would love as I needed something to look forward to in retirement. Anyone that really knows me knows that I can't sit still very long unless it's working at my computer and my idea of retirement is working for a great boss and who's a better boss than yourself :)
When I first started in Jan of 2021 I thought I'd pick-up a handful properties to manage over the next couple of years, but by June I had superseded my ambitious thoughts and already had at least a half dozen and more owners were talking to me about managing for them as well. Then by Jan I had about 15 and today I'm at 25. It's been a whirlwind experience with tiring hours, learning and developing in breakneck speed and a ton of patience, understanding and support from my new wife.
I must take a moment to reach out and thank Jerry and Karen Weikle for starting me down this path and introducing us to affordable ocean front properties in Myrtle Beach for without them we would not be here today. Then to Deb's friend Sue who was so confident in me that she purchased a condo in the same building as us for me to manage it for her and became my first official client. Although this was a great day it's still not quite the same as getting someone to buy into what you are offering and trusting a stranger to oversee an investment of this magnitude with confidence to take a leap of faith with you so here I must also recognize Richard and Yuan Hardesty for trusting me with this responsibility. Then over the next year developing relationships additional owners, housecleaners, maintenance companies, etc. while building this business and lastly, of course to all our fantastic guests as without guests there would be no property management. We've done so much, come so far and yet have so much more to do! It is so rewarding to have grown this business based on word of mouth recommendations only and with no advertising to more than $500,000 in annual transactions in less than 2 years (some happy owners there) - thank you everyone! With out thanking everyone individually here which you all deserve I will also add one more special thank you to my biggest cheerleader, Deb DeStefano who I had never met until she decided to hire me as her property manager and now promotes me whenever she has the opportunity. She always keeps me on my toes, is critical of everything, but this keeps me true to my philosophy of doing my best to provide all owners and guests with a quality, clean "Home Away from Home" experience when they visit our properties and always want to come back to sooner than later.
