March 22, 2015. That day would forever change the face of Tacos! Just a week prior, long-time friend of J-Mike’s, Phil Jackson (aka DJQP, aka Krispy Kreme Killah), now Head of the Surf Dreams Fundation, called to invite J-Mike to enter the ASF Taco Cook-off in Murrell’s Inlet, SC. More well known for his J-Mike’s Jerky, which would make it into Piggly Wiggly on the old AFB before it closed....., J-Mike was hesitant for he had no restaurant of his own to represent. Well, Mr. Jackson would not take no for an answer and told J-Mike, “ Man up and make a Taco, you know....for the kids!” And that’s just what J-Mike did! He took his famous marinated beef and cooked it down in some veggies and slapped it on a “Double Down” chassis (inspired from that one taco place), added Real Cheddar Cheese, healthy Green Leaf Lettuce, fresh Pico de Gallo and our Signature “J-Sauce” Southwest Ranch!
Fast forward to Thanksgiving of 2017. The Owner of the X-Gym Sports Mall, Mr. Robby Love (check out ‘Robby Love Skatin’ 66 on Youtube) called J-Mike, after he heard about how good the tacos were from some of his Members, and invited him and his tacos to make a home in the former “Smoothielicious” Cafe. J-Mike was hesitant, for he had made a pledge for 2018, to only work his job at Gutter Helmet and finish building his food truck, the J-Mike’s Flavor Ship. Well, Mr. Love would NOT take no for an answer! Mr. Love said, “Man up!”, that he “truly believed that J-Mike and his Trophies would be a perfect fit for his Sports Mall”! And that’s just what J-Mike did!
On March 22, 2018, the 3rd Anniversary of the 1st Taco Trophy, and subsequent 2nd Anniversary of the 2nd Taco Trophy, J-Mike sold his first taco, in his first restaurant! (This ‘coincidence’ still gets J-Mike all verklempt!)
