🌌✨ Beware the Longest Night… Lussi’s Night is Almost Here! ✨🌌

On Friday the 13th, this year’s Lussi’s Night holds an extra layer of eerie energy. According to Norse folklore, Lussi, a fierce spirit of the winter solstice, emerges to roam the dark. Known for punishing those who dared to work or disobey during her sacred night, Lussi is said to bring storms, s***f out lights, and even sn**ch away those who don’t heed her warnings.

✨ How to see Lussi? Look to the skies—her arrival is often accompanied by fierce winds or sudden darkness. Some say you might catch a glimpse of her shadow moving through the cold winter night. But beware—only the bold and the careful should seek her out!

🎄👻 This Friday the 13th, dare to walk Mystic’s historic streets with us on the Ghosts of Christmas Past tour! We’ll share chilling tales of Yuletide spirits, holiday hauntings, and the forgotten legends that linger in the festive glow.

✨ Spots are limited—don’t let Lussi catch you unprepared!

🎄🔪 Friday the 13th Meets Christmas Past! 🔪🎄
This Friday the 13th, prepare for an unforgettable evening blending holiday cheer with ghostly chills! 👻✨
🔮 Whether you believe the lore or not, Friday the 13th is the perfect day to explore Mystic’s haunted history.
💀 The Origins of Friday the 13th
1️⃣ Fear of 13 (Triskaidekaphobia): The number 13 has been considered unlucky in many cultures for centuries. It’s thought to disrupt the harmony of the "perfect" number 12 (e.g., 12 months, 12 zodiac signs, 12 apostles). Many buildings even skip labeling the 13th floor!
📆 Friday as an Unlucky Day: In medieval Europe, Friday was often associated with misfortune. Some Christian traditions linked it to the crucifixion of Jesus, said to have taken place on a Friday.
🔪 The Convergence: The fear of both the number 13 and Fridays combined into a single "superstitious day" in the early 20th century. The book Friday, the Thirteenth (1907) by Thomas Lawson popularized the idea that the date could bring doom.
💀 Did You Know? The Fear of Friday the 13th Has Deep Roots!
2️⃣ Norse Mythology: Loki, the trickster god, was the 13th uninvited guest at a feast, causing chaos and death.
3️⃣ Knights Templar: On Friday, October 13, 1307, hundreds of Templar knights were arrested, tortured, and executed—forever linking the date to misfortune.

🎬 Jason Voorhees & Pop Culture
🔪 The Friday the 13th film series cemented the day in pop culture as one of fear and horror. Jason Voorhees, the iconic masked villain, became synonymous with the day. But for us, Jason (your guide!) brings tales, not terror… or does he? 😉
________________________________________
🕵️‍♀️ Fun Fact: Studies show that accidents and misfortunes don’t increase on Friday the 13th—it’s our beliefs that shape our experience! So why not turn the day into an adventure of chills, thrills, and festive fun?
👀 Spots are limited—book your Friday the 13th adventure now – we have our Ghosts of Christmas Past Tour at 7 and our Spirits of Mystic Pub Crawl at 7:30!

🎄👻 Happy Krampusnacht from Seaside Shadows!

The holidays in Mystic may sparkle with charm, but beneath the cheer lies a darker history of holiday hauntings and folklore. One of the most infamous figures of the season is Krampus, the horned and hooved companion of St. Nicholas. With rattling chains, sharp fangs, and a bundle of birch sticks, Krampus roams the snowy night, punishing the naughty and dragging them away to his lair.

This chilling figure hails from Alpine folklore, where he represents the balance between reward and punishment during the festive season. The legend of Krampus served as a warning to children (and adults!) to stay on their best behavior. Some say his eerie visits inspired tales of other holiday characters like Belsnickel, a fur-clad figure who offers treats—or tricks—to those he encounters.

🎟️ Discover the haunted history of the holidays on our Ghosts of Christmas Past tours, running every weekend in December in downtown Mystic! Walk along the cobblestone streets lit with festive lights as we share tales of Christmas spirits, ghostly apparitions, and the darker side of holiday traditions.

✨ How to keep Krampus from paying you a visit?

Be generous and kind—his wrath is for those who stray from the holiday spirit.
Offer fruits or sweets as peace offerings.
Remember, Krampus rewards good deeds with his absence—don’t give him a reason to stay!
❄️ This December, celebrate the holidays with a touch of mystery and magic. Reserve your tickets now and step into a season of haunted history! www.seasideshadows.com/calendar or see link in bio

10/31/2024

Samhain (Nov 1st) is an Ancient Celtic Holiday and where most of our Halloween origins come from. Samhain tells us why we dress in costume (a way to scare away evil spirits and/or set intentions) why the veil is thin between the living and the dead (as the veil thins between seasons so does the veil between worlds) and why we have a long history of sharing stories around the fire (a feast day gathering crossing the boundary between the seasons). Other traditions include the “dumb supper” where people eat in silence to remember the dead and leave a candle and plate for their beloved dead to come back and visit. Samhain/Halloween would also be when young maidens may prophesy or scry their future lover. How can you honor ancient traditions? Trick or treating, gathering round the fire, carving a jack-o-lantern or visiting your traveling local storyteller! We will have tours tonight in Downtown Mystic at 7 & Mystic Graveyard at 7 complete with treats from and if you attend the graveyard tour, YOU will help us honor the beloved dead and have the opportunity to bring roses to souls in the graveyard as we honor them on this sacred day. Halloween or Samhain typically last’s from All Hallow’s Eve on 10/31 through All Soul’s Day/Day of the Dead on 11/2 – so it is a three-day celebration and as such, we at Seaside Shadows will be honoring it every day.
