Friendly reminder regarding digging holes at the beach.🙂

Yesterday we posted a picture of a large hole that was dug and left unfilled on the beach. Well, it has happened again this evening. At approximately 6:37 pm, a concerned citizen called our station directly to report another large hole on the beach, in the 1100 block of North Virginia Dare Trail.

The duty crew had to use the utility pickup truck to gain access to the location of the hole because it was not near a public beach access. The total time for this call was approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes because they had to air down the tires, fill in the hole, then refill the tires. The hole was 8’ - 9’ in diameter and 3.5’ - 4’ feet deep.

Please, please we beg you, if you must dig, be considerate and fill it back in! Many people think it’s fun and do not think about the consequences of their actions. Leaving a large hole like this is extremely dangerous to those walking on the beach, first responders and turtles!

We run a minimum 4-person crew. This evening, because of this call, 2 firefighters responded to this call, while the other 2 stayed at the station, in case any other emergency calls came in.
