FROM NABOR PRESIDENT:
On Tuesday, March 26, Collier County Commissioners voted abruptly, 4-1, to direct county staff to aggressively enforce an interpretation of rules that ban owners from renting their homes for less than six months.

While the topic has been discussed in general terms, it was not on the agenda for action. The speed of this vote was very disturbing.

NABOR representatives spoke at that Collier County Commission meeting and advised the commissioners to take a slow approach with full transparency and open dialogue. NABOR recommended that input be gathered from the community in order to allow for a thorough discussion to take place at a future commission meeting. In their haste to take immediate action, NABOR’s request was ignored.

Recently, NABOR's Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors held a special meeting to discuss these short-term rental regulation issues. The resulting message from leadership is that options are available to oppose short-term rental regulation and protect private property rights in our community. Along with Florida REALTORS®, NABOR will use every resource we have to advocate for our members, as well as for the homeowners in our community.

The next meeting of the Collier County Commissioner is Tuesday, April 9th at 9:00 AM on the Third Floor of the Collier County Government Center. NABOR will issue a Call-for-Action urging you to contact your commissioners and attend this meeting. Our goal is to have the Collier County Commission reconsider our request to take a more deliberate approach with full transparency - including open dialogue and input from our industry.

We assure you that NABOR is moving forward quickly to highlight the negative impact that short-term rental regulations could have on our real estate market.
