10pm a striped snake in my pool cage. It’s a King Snake. Very similar looking to a Coral Snake.(venomous) Makes you think & be very careful 😓

I’ve been invited to TRAQS, a 4 day kayak retreat as A mentor/instructor/ coach - thought I better practice my one & only roll I have ear problems, so I’m proud to be a bad roller ( shouldn’t be possible) but my nuts & bolts approach helps a lot of people.
Because of ear problems I’ve had to learn how to keep my head above my ass to the enth degree 😂😂
This roll wasn’t good - but I’ll take it - head over ass 😂😂

For the 3rd year the Paradise Coast Paddler's Club, in conjunction with Paddlesports of Naples, will be raffling off a Stellar Kayaks S16 G2 Touring Kayak or S16S G2 Surfski in the Advantage (Fiberglass) Construction. These have an approximate retail value of $3695.

This month we have the one and only Benjamin Lawry, National Technical Instructor for Stellar Kayaks, speaking to us about Kayak Design, Materials, and how to fit yourself properly in your boat depending on the type of paddling (touring, surfing, racing or rolling) you are doing.�Ben Lawry has been paddling for over 40 years, and teaching/guiding for over 30. He has taught paddling on five continents and competed on three. He has led trips and traveled extensively in South America, South Africa, Europe and North America. As a brand ambassador, he is involved with kayak design in sea, light-touring, and racing kayaks.�Come to our meeting and learn how you can improve your fit and comfort in your kayak.�We will experiment with putting the meetings on Facebook LIVE for those who can’t be there.�Meetings are regularly scheduled on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm, in the North Collier Govt Center at Orange Blossom Drive, just off Airport Rd and across the parking lot from the Main Branch of the Collier County Library. Come to the left (south) corner of the Government Center.�After the meeting some of us meet up for dinner someplace.�WE CAN THROW A MEETING - BE THERE

Clam Pass today was busy. Dolphins everywhere
I paddled about 50 yards and saw some patterns in the water about 15 yards east. Followed a couple of Dolphins back towards the launch. Saw some in the gulf and back in the trail. GOOD DAY!

The deepest view ever obtained in the universe. Filled with galaxies. The several spiked objects are local stars in our own Milky Way. Ignore them. Everything else is an entire galaxy unto itself. Notice that many distort into arcs. These are distant galaxies that reveal the curvature of spacetime caused by the gravity of a cluster of galaxies in image's center.

1st Sunday Paddle. At Delnor Wiggins State Park Launch.

ARRIVAL 9:00AM or earlier $4 entry fee LAUNCH and start paddling 9:30AM IMPORTANT - BRING your PFD AND Wear it PROPERLY! !!!NO INFLATABLE KAYAKS!!! Check this page before you leave for the paddle to make sure no changes were made because of weather ⛈ etc. 😊�This is a great paddle for everyone, No first timers. This is a FUN DAY. If you are looking to expand your paddling abilities this a great day. The experienced Paddlers will be there for advice. Bring water & sunscreen; wear a hat & water-type clothing and shoes. As much as they are loved, no dogs, cats or pet alligators, this is a casual paddle but not that casual. 😉 Paddling begins at 9:30, so come early enough to unload. Hope to see you there. Paddle as much or little as you wish. The route we usually paddle is approx. 6 miles, but some paddlers may choose a longer return route.

What happens when we lift a starfish out of water for an impromptu photo session?

All over the body of starfish are papules called dermal gills. Carbon dioxide gases are exchanged for oxygen between the coelomic liquid of the starfish and the water. Essentially, it’s how they breathe, like having hundreds of tiny noses all over your body.

As fresh air is toxic to starfish and they can’t hold their breath for very long, each time they’re lifted out of the water for a photo op, they are drowning and suffering from a build up of carbon dioxide. It’s the equivalent of someone filling your lungs with water for a little while and then emptying them again. It’s not a good day out. When this is done repeatedly, it’s a flip of the coin as to whether the poor creature can die from drowning or the stress of being semi-drowned so many times.

Wildlife are not our playthings. Just because a creature is slow enough to be caught by human hands, that doesn’t give us the right to do so, and the social media attention gained certainly does not justify the harm caused to the critter.

This is an act we’re all guilty of at some point. What was happening to that animal in the moment didn’t cross our minds. But now we know better, so we must do better.
