What did our clients have to say about traveling with Craft in July?

“It was a majestic and amazing trip. Everyone loved it and it was very, VERY smooth! The tours were even better than we could have ever imagined.” - Cynthia G, traveled to Italy & Switzerland

“Everything was amazing! We loved the hotels and the experience with Jaume and Clara was terrific! They are the most interesting people and we learned a ton about Catalonia and wine and how to prepare dishes. Their home was lovely and they were the best hosts ever!” - Kathy C, traveled to Spain & Italy

“Just know that it was stupendous. You knocked it out of the ballpark!” - Deborah D, traveled to Iceland

There may have been severe weather, tech armageddon at the airports and another record-breaking busy summer travel season but we worked hard to ensure that our clients enjoyed seamless vacations all across the globe.

Paris Olympics, peak migration river crossing activity in Kenya, young family safari in South Africa (love us some quad bunkbeds!) and a luxe last minute couples’ getaway to Cabo’s best beach resort were some other highlights in addition to the ones our clients shared above.

Here’s the complete list of where our clients traveled to in July:

Highly honored that Forbes has featured our luxury Madagascar travel guide in this exclusive piece.

The guide was something very personal to me that I wrote after our most recent family adventure there. Madagascar has so much to offer (special thanks to Miavana by Time + Tide), and there has never been a better time to visit this majestic country: crowds are few and lodges are not only incredible but remarkably committed to regenerative travel.

As passionate globetrotters ourselves, we understand the thirst for that next unparalleled adventure. That’s why we’re here to unlock doors to extraordinary experiences you won’t easily find elsewhere, thanks to our global network of partners.

One experience we have crafted that stands out is a private charter yacht to Antarctica, perfect for a multigenerational family. Our clients came up close with penguins and had spontaneous encounters with humpback whales, while also enjoying the marine life from the comfort of their private deck. These yachts are havens of comfort, equipped with jacuzzis, saunas, steam baths, and massage rooms, all attended to by a devoted crew.

Opting for a private charter over a group expedition transforms your journey into an intimate, tailor-made adventure. With zodiacs and snow scooters readily available for your exclusive use, the experience is entirely yours to shape. Thanks to their more compact size, these yachts offer the unique advantage of navigating through secluded areas, unreachable by larger expedition ships.

If this sounds like the type of experience you’d love to have, let us know and share this post with a fellow adventure seeker who would love this! Have we just found your next destination?

Being based in Cape Town means Julia gets real-time insight on the city's constantly evolving hotel scene. Here are three of her favorite options, and how you can determine which one is the best fit for you:

📍 Ellerman House
➡️ Why we love it: A luxurious boutique hotel nestled atop Bantry Bay, Ellerman truly does feel like a house, or perhaps more like an intimate mansion! With just 13 rooms and 2 neighboring private villas, all with stunning ocean views, the only complaint we receive from guests is that they didn't get to spend enough time at the hotel. Inclusions such as wine tastings, sunset cocktails, 24/7 access to the coveted Guest Pantry and private tours through their gallery (considered to be one of the best private African art collections) offer massive value.
➡️ Who it's best for: Honeymooners and couples seeking an immersive, tranquil, refined boutique-type oasis with impeccable service away from tourists... and with the best ocean views in town!

📍 The Silo Hotel
➡️ Why we love it: Towering above the V&A Waterfront, Liz Biden's landmark design property offers jaw-dropping views of the city skyline and Table Mountain, with iconic architecture and a lively rooftop bar and pool where cocktails are always flowing. Still considered the hottest hospitality address in town, The Silo shares a space with Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art.
➡️ Who it's best for: Design enthusiasts, art lovers, and trendy jetsetters who want to be in the heart of the Cape Town social scene with easy access to the city

📍 One & Only Resort
➡️ Why we love it: Situated in the heart of the V&A waterfront with unparalleled views of the marina & Table Mountain, stunning rooms +"private island" suites, arguably the city's best spa, bar & dining options including Nobu Cape Town, and extensive family-focused amenities, including a coveted Kid's Club.
➡️ Who it's best for: Families seeking relaxation with sprawling space, endless activities for all ages in a central location with top resort amenities

Crafted Guide: How to spend 72 hours in Munich & Salzburg, according to our travel designer 👇

FRIDAY:
📍 Arrive in Munich and check in at the luxurious

📍Head to Viktualienmarkt, an outdoor food market offering a variety of culinary delights. Grab a picnic and enjoy it in the beer garden. Next, visit the Rathaus-Glockenspiel in Marienplatz, an ornate clock re-enacting stories from Munich’s history. Explore the Residenz, the largest city palace and former seat of Bavarian royalty. End your day at Hofbräuhaus, Munich’s iconic beer hall—touristy but worth a stop for a beer.

SATURDAY:
📍Take a walk to Eisbachwelle in the Englischer Garten to see year-round river surfing. For lunch, visit Spatenhaus an der Opera to indulge in Bavarian classics like Müncher Weiβwurst and Obatzda. Spend the afternoon at the Rosewood Asaya spa for the ultimate relaxation before heading to your next destination. Finish the day with live jazz at Bar Montez.

SUNDAY:
🚊 Travel to Salzburg by train. (1 hour 30min)

📍 Check in at Hotel Sacher Salzburg

📍Take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress: go for the history and stay for the incredible views of Salzburg and the Alps. After, explore the Old Town (don’t miss Mozart’s birthplace and St. Peter’s Cemetery). Enjoy a puppet show at Salzburger Marionettentheater, one of the oldest continuing marionette theaters in the world. Stroll through the Mirabell Palace gardens and recognize scenes from “The Sound of Music”. Finish the day with a delicious Austrian meal at St. Peter Stiftskulinarium, said to be the oldest restaurant in Europe. (get the Nockerl for dessert)

While 72 hours is not nearly enough time to explore all that both of these incredible cities have to offer, these are some of our must-see’s. We’d recommend adding an extra day in each city and combining with Vienna.

Ask Clare anything about visiting Germany or Austria, whether for the festive season next year or perhaps for your annual European summer vacation.

As Europe’s summer nears, Ireland emerges as the idyllic family destination. Its castles spark imagination, offering a rich journey into history and folklore. The locals’ warmth eases your travel, particularly with kids. For outdoor enthusiasts, Ireland’s landscapes are a delight. We’ve curated a scenic route to explore Ireland’s beauty.

📍Immerse in Dublin’s rich history at Trinity College and delve into the National History Museum and National Gallery. En route to Kilkenny, don’t overlook the Irish National Stud and Gardens, the heart of Ireland’s thoroughbred industry.

📍Journey south to County Kerry to navigate the renowned Ring of Kerry, absorbing panoramic vistas, savouring meals at traditional restaurants, and discovering charming towns along the way.

📍Venture to the Di**le Peninsula to explore the rugged coastline, stroll through quaint seaside towns, and try a traditional fish-and-chips meal. The little ones will love the kids version: scampi & fish.

📍Continue along the coast to the Cliffs of Moher, pausing en route for a grand stay at the spectacular Adare Manor. With 840 acres of untouched parkland to roam and a plethora of quintessential Irish activities such as falconry and clay pigeon shooting, it’s a haven for both kids and adults. Parents will especially appreciate the Michelin Star restaurant on-site.

📍Journey further north until you reach Ashford Castle, a hotel rooted in the 13th century and the perfect base for exploring Connemara National Park. The hotel offers family fun, including horseback riding, archery, hiking, and traditional boating to a secret spot for a luxurious picnic hamper prepared by the hotel.

📍While staying at Ashford Castle, one of our favorite experiences is a private helicopter ride to the Aran Islands for a truly off-the-beaten-path experience. Here, the Irish (Gaelic) language is still spoken. Apart from the numerous ancient remains and dramatic landscapes, we value the interaction with locals here that we can provide. From hand-knit Aran sweaters to intricate Claddagh rings, you will learn about the lives of locals and see how they channel their passion into creating traditional Irish crafts.

Which Antarctica trip is right for you?

We've noticed a surge in queries from Craft travelers keen on exploring Antarctica, particularly about the best booking time and ideal visit period. Our Antarctica expert, Andrea, always advises clients to plan their expedition early for the best selection of trips, ships, and cabins. The variety of options can seem daunting, but we're here to help tailor your adventure to your interests and preferences. For example, if your goal is to reach the Polar Circle, February is your month, as receding sea ice improves accessibility. If the Drake Passage crossing concerns you, we suggest a fly-over program to bypass potential seasickness.

Another common query we receive is, "Which Antarctica cruise is best for me?". With numerous fantastic choices at various budgets, Andrea suggests three top expedition vessels for your consideration:

📍Antarctica 21 - Magellan Express
Antarctica 21 pioneered the concept of flying over the Drake Passage to Antarctica, a game-changer in accessing this White Continent. Their standout vessel, the Magellan Explorer, is custom-built for Antarctic air-cruises, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a personal experience. It caters to a small group of up to 73 passengers, offering comfortable cabins and adventure activities like kayaking and snowshoeing.

📍Silversea - Silver Endeavor
For those who love cruising and seek luxury, the Silver Endeavor is a perfect pick. It offers a spectacular and true 5-star experience while ensuring immersive exploration. All experiences, including hiking and kayaking, are included, eliminating concerns about extra costs.

📍Quark Expedition - Ultramarine
Quark Expedition excels in polar travel, and their Ultramarine vessel proves it. Offering the widest range of optional activities, from camping to mountaineering, they even have onboard helicopters for flightseeing.

Intrigued by any of these options? Reach out if you need help navigating through the choices. We're here to guide you in selecting the right ship, cabin, and the optimal season for your journey. These details can significantly enhance your experience.

We've just checked with our local partners and can confirm there is availability at some of our preferred hotels. If you are looking for a home-away-from-home experience for a family, we know the perfect luxury apartment nestled in a Haussmann-style building in Place du Trocadero.

Five destinations you need to book NOW for 2024 👇

If you're planning to visit any of the destinations below this year or early next year, the time to book is now! Top accommodations in these destinations fill up quickly, so to avoid disappointment, we recommend booking much earlier than you might normally consider:

📍 The Arctic for this summer:
Late June and early July is peak season to visit the Arctic with the sun remaining above the horizon for 24 hours, giving you ample time to spot walrus, whales, Arctic foxes, reindeer and the most iconic of Arctic denizens, the polar bear, in their natural habitat. If you're curious about what a trip to the Arctic can look like, head to our blog to see a detailed recap of Elissa's adventure there last year.

📍 A safari for this summer:
Although it is always possible to find availability in some places, July and August are the two most popular months for African safari. If you have your eyes set on a specific lodge or time that month, you'll want to finalize your plans for this summer as soon as possible. If your dates aren't flexible, start thinking of 2025!

📍 Costa Rica for November and the festive season:
Always a popular choice, now is the time to book if you're hoping to soak in hot springs in Arenal, get lost in the magical cloud forest of Monteverde, and end up on hidden beaches on the Pacific Coast while spotting three-toed sloths in December next year.

📍 Patagonia for 2024 (or 2025) festive season:
For those of you hoping to get away from it all next Christmas and reconnect with nature. Availability is already quite tight so you may even want to consider planning this for 2025!

📍 Antarctica for 2024 festive season:
Imagine kicking off the festive season or ending the year by kayaking next to icebergs, being on a zodiac surrounded by whales, and hiking the tundra with penguins. 😍

If one of these destinations is on your 2024 bucket list, please visit our link in bio to book a complimentary session with our team. We can help you create a custom itinerary covering everything from the best locations, properties, experiences, and more, based on your budget, style, and needs. Let's get planning!

🇿🇦 A 10-day South African newlyweds' escape combining a Cape Town stay at the 19th-century Cape Cadogan with the contemporary Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek, and then a safari at Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa in the Welgevonden Game Reserve, which has one of the world’s largest populations of rare white rhino.

With stays at the waterfront luxury Anantara Riverside Resort situated on the Chao Phraya river, the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant camp with up close elephant experiences, the dreamy villa-only Banyan Tree Phuket, and the tranquil Banyan Tree Krabi with breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea.

Easter Island, known locally as Rapa Nui, is an extraordinary place that consistently captivates those who visit its remote and enchanting lands. The most incredible feature of the island is the array of monumental statues, called moai, which have mystified historians, archaeologists, and visitors for generations. However, the allure of Easter Island goes beyond these stone giants.

As one of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth, Easter Island is often overlooked by travelers, yet it presents a unique extension to your Chilean adventure. There, you're given the opportunity to stand face-to-face with the iconic moai statues and immerse yourself in the rich Polynesian culture. But do not be put off by its seclusion; the island bustles with activities to experience and sights to see, from scuba diving and biking along the cliffs towards Tahai, to hiking up Mahatua. For an authentic cultural immersion, consider timing your visit to coincide with the Tapati Rapa Nui festival. Through vivid body art, music, and storytelling, you will forge a personal and spiritual connection with the Rapa Nui culture—an experience the local community deeply treasures and strives to preserve.

Two of Andrea’s personal favorite hotels on the island are:

1). Explora Rapa Nui: Catering to the adventure-seeker, this lodge is set in a tranquil location surrounded by grassland, volcanic cones, and the Pacific Ocean. It offers an array of excursions, including volcano hikes, bike rides, snorkeling through coral gardens, and scuba dives near underwater moai. The lodge boasts a sleek, modern design yet maintains respect for local traditions and the environment. We admire how the lodge's expert guides offer insightful, active excursions that delve into the island's history, geology, and community.

2). Nayara Hangaroa: This hotel blends understated luxury with ancestral tradition, situated along a rugged coastline. Spacious villas provide direct access to the renowned moai, making it an excellent choice for families seeking a mix of mild adventure and relaxation.

Have you ever considered going to Easter Island?

Photos straight from the ultimate family adventure!

Julia recently planned a two-week trip for her family and their friends who came to South Africa for the first time, accompanied by their 4-year-old daughter.

The itinerary encompassed all the places she would recommend to a first-time visitor in South Africa: Cape Town, the Whale Coast, Cape Winelands, and a safari in the Greater Kruger Area.

The trip turned out so wonderfully that we decided to share the itinerary on our blog along with some additional insights from Julia and her friends. You know we love a thorough recap! Head to the link in our bio to dive into all the details, or check out a sneak peek into the itinerary below:

📍 The trip started in Cape Town. For families visiting without local friends, it's hard to beat a stay at . It's the perfect base to discover Table Mountain, Robben Island, and the Cape Peninsula, where everyone loves the penguins at Boulders Beach. This is a bonafide resort property with a heated pool and kids' club. Bonus: the views of Table Mountain from the hotel are exquisite and you're right next door to the Aquarium!

📍 Next up was the , set in a pristine wilderness reserve along the Klein River lagoon on South Africa’s Whale Coast. We've done a full recap of this one in one of our recent posts. The villa is stunning, with the most impeccable service, and it stole everybody’s hearts on the trip.

📍 They then spent a couple of nights at the Farm Hotel in Franschhoek for mountainous views and easy access to nearby wineries. The Winelands are surprisingly kid-friendly, with a host of engaging activities on site, like feeding buffalo, collecting fresh eggs, and even baking your own farm bread.

📍 The last stop was the charming and newly opened 3-bedroom Kamara House in .safari game reserve, to see the Big Five. The reserve has arguably some of the best game in the country so you can expect incredible wildlife sightings, sans crowds.

Does this sound like your idea of the perfect family vacation in South Africa? Don't hesitate to leave us a comment if you have any questions.

Looking for a unique summer vacation? Head to the opposite hemisphere and go skiing (or snowboarding!) in Chile.

Being Chilean-American, Andrea has a soft spot for this long thin country and spent many summers skiing in Chile herself. Here she shares some of her insights:

1️⃣ The Chilean ski season spans from late June through September, extending until mid-October in Patagonia. Should you choose to explore the slopes near Santiago, the most favorable skiing conditions can be found in July. However, this period overlaps with the winter break for Chilean schools, so advance booking is strongly advised. For those seeking a longer ski season, Patagonia offers excellent conditions that last into mid-October.

2️⃣ There are plenty of ski resorts located 2 hours outside of Santiago, making it a great way to combine winter adventure with a cosmopolitan getaway. Some of these include Valle Nevado and Portillo. However, these resorts may seem basic compared to North American and European standards. For a truly remarkable experience, head to Patagonia. Here you are away from the crowds and surrounded by stunning views of lakes, snow-capped peaks, glaciers and active volcanoes.

3️⃣ If you're looking for a family-friendly option, consider a stay You'll get to relish the thrill of skiing down the active Villarrica Volcano.

4️⃣ For the adventurous, 's Rio Palena Lodge is a hidden gem. It's remotely located with heli-ski zones nearby. The varied terrain offers open bowls and steep couloirs, ensuring every skier finds their sweet spot. Known as one of Chile's finest lodges, it offers top-tier amenities, an expert ski guide, helicopter, and a full-time chef in a serene setting, for an unforgettable stay.

5️⃣ Chile's diverse geography allows for incredible experiences and on the same day, you can be heli-skiing the Andes and later land on one of the driest deserts in the world, Atacama. After skiing, we recommend exploring the Atacama Desert, a vast region of salt flats, sand dunes, hot springs, geysers and volcanoes. July and August are also the best months for stargazing.

Calling all parents! We've been fortunate enough to go on numerous family safaris over the years, and this is what we've learned:

1️⃣ Children LOVE safaris, and as parents, we can safely say there is nothing quite like witnessing your little ones' eyes widen in amazement as they encounter animals in the bush. It's an experience that you and they will never forget.

2️⃣ Make sure to select a safari lodge with top-notch kids' facilities for the best experience. Bush Lodge has the EleFun Centre, an indoor discovery room filled with arts and crafts, a studio/playroom that leads out to a secured outdoor playground packed with jungle gyms, mazes, fields, and more. has a playground and school where the children of staff attend, and little guests can actually go to school for the day! in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia also offer a dedicated Kids Club with activities such as bush walks, arts and crafts, and storytelling.

3️⃣ Look for lodges that will truly tailor the safari daily activities to your family. Lodges like include in their rates a private vehicle, ranger, tracker, and a complimentary babysitter. We cannot overstate the significance of such an inclusion. There is simply nothing like being fully in control of your daily itinerary when on safari, something virtually impossible when you are sharing a vehicle and guide with other guests.

Finding the right safari lodge for your family depends on your safari requirements, your kids' age, the level of support you're seeking with childcare, and your budget. Many camps allow free stays for children up to a certain age, with ongoing special offers. For instance, African Bush Camps offers free stays for kids under 15 until July 31, 2024, and Tswalu provides promotions like 50% off the 4th night and a free 5th night with 4 nights. This is where working with travel designers like us, who have a full view of the options and offers at any time, can be incredibly helpful.

Do you have any questions about taking your kids on safari? Let us know! We're here to help you discover the perfect location and plan a trip your family will never forget!
