Weekend Away Pt. 4 - Columbus, Ohio

Our stay was extended yet another day. We got a lot of sights in today, including the "World's Largest Gavel" and a herd of bison at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. After a delicious lunch we headed to The Orton Geological Museum, which was unfortunately mostly closed, but we got to take a look at the beautiful architecture of the OHU campus!

Travel Tip: both the Orton Geological Museum and The Ohio Craft Museum offer free admission!

Weekend Away Pt. 3 - Columbus, Ohio

Our weekend away got a little interrupted by the snow storms, so we decided to spend the night in Ohio. We made a short pit stop at Grandpa's Cheese Barn and were not disappointed! They have two buildings, one dedicated to cheese, jerky, jams, etc. While the other one was solely dedicated to sweets (all made on site). Would 100% recommend.

Once in Columbus we headed downtown to the "North Market" and enjoyed some delicious, authentic Polish food!

We were going to go to the Columbus Art Museum but unfortunately they closed early because of the weather. Pro tip, the museum offers free admission every Sunday!

Weekend Away Pt. 2 - Erie, PA

This morning we went to the Thomas Ridge Environmental Center (TREC). A free museum where you can learn all about formation and the creatures that live on Presque Isle. I would especially recommend this for families with children; almost all the displays have interactive features, and they have several 'Kid Zones' scattered throughout. In addition they also have a 75 foot high observation tower that gives a spectacular view of the lake!

The giftshop features several local artists, which gives each item a unique flair. All proceeds go to the conservation of Presque Isle!

Weekend Away Pt. 1 - Erie, PA

What better way to start the new year than with a trip! Our first stop was the Maritime Museum. I cannot recommend this place enough! The staff was friendly an incredibly knowledgeable, they showed us how to turn a boat with the sails and how to tie lots of different knots. The musuem itself had an impressive amount of displays including a ships mast, an ice boat, and a full engine. During the summer you are even given a tour of "The USS Niagra" the boat responsible for winning the battle of Lake Erie.

After the museum we grabbed some delicious Vietnamese food at "Saigon Nights" before heading to Presque Isle State Park; while there we saw beautiful scenery, the Perry Monument, and LOTS and LOTS of snow!
