The weather's nice, and it's time to get out and go! You might think of a travel agent as only being useful for international trips, but we also book trips across the US. Unsure of where to go next? Let's take a look at some upcoming festivals across the US that you don't want to miss out on.

Want a taste of Scotland but don't want to go far from home? Look no further than The Grandfather Games, set against the beautiful mountain range near Asheville. This Scottish festival is considered the most reputable and attended Scottish event in the US. Thursday starts out with traditional Celtic entertainment and a sheep herding demonstration. That evening they host the opening ceremonies where each clan lights a torch to declare their participation in the festival. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are filled with competitions from heavyweight athletic events and highland dancing to piping, drumming, and harp competitions. You don't want to miss out on this fun the whole family can enjoy.

The festival takes place July 10-13 this year. Call now for more information and to see what else the great state of North Carolina has to offer!

Don't worry, the month's not quite over yet . . . and neither is our exploration of international plants! This week let's cruise on over to Italy and take a look at the Strawberry Tree. Known for its green leaves, white flowers, and red berries,, this plant was chosen because it reflected the colors of the Italian flag. Talk about patriotism!

The association of the strawberry tree with Italy is often linked to the Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli, who wrote about the tree in his works.

Contrary to its name, it does not produce strawberries or anything remotely close to it; the little red berries that give it its name are arbutus berries, which are often used in jams, jellies, and even some alcohols.

‼SMALL TOWN HIGHLIGHT‼

Point Pleasant, West Virginia, population 3,908

This small town got its claim to fame in 1966, when the first sighting of "Mothman" was reported. Since then the town has become something of a tourist destination, with a giant statue of Mothman smack dab in the town square, a Mothman museum, and even a bakery that sells Mothman cookies. But the crowning jewel happens every year on the third week of September. This festival is free and offers a variety of activities, including a fun run, a beauty pageant, and a comic con event. Those who attend for its supernatural aspects can hear from renowned cryptozoologists and conspiracy theorists alike. Either way, it's a great time for the whole family and a unique twist on the town's lore! Don't miss this year's; who knows, you might even see Mothman himself there!

Mothman Festival is an annual event held every third weekend of September in Point Pleasant, West Virginia — home to everyone's favorite cryptid: The Mothman!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Let's take a little trip down to Ireland and learn about their national flower, a three-leafed plant that's part of the clover family . . . have you guessed it yet? It's the Shamrock!

It is said that St. Patrick used the three leaves as a symbol to educate people on The Holy Trinity i.e. the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Other times the leaves have been said to symbolize faith, hope, and love, but if you find one with four leaves, that's where we get the luck from 😉

Want to learn more about Irish culture? Why not book a trip! Call (615) 847-4095 to ask about rates! Oh and make sure you wear green today! ☘️

Our next flower is one you should all be familiar with—the lotus!

🪷Whether you've been watching The White Lotus on HBO MAX, you've read about it in Egyptian history, or you just like looking at flowers, the lotus has gained notoriety for centuries!

🪷In history, the lotus was a symbol for the Egyptian sun god Ra for its representation of the cycle of life. For those of you who don't know, the Lotus closes every night and reopens with the dawn. In other cultures, it also represented purity, as the flower could "rise from the mud" without being stained.

🪷The lotus is native to Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America. The two most common types of lotus' come in pink and yellow.

In the event of this early spring weather, I thought we could celebrate some world-renowned flowers!

Our first flower takes us down under to the land of the outback—the golden wattle!

While native to Australia, it can be found in most of the surrounding areas, including Tasmania and New South Wales. The golden wattle is known for its resilience; because of the tough coating that surrounds the seed, it is resistant to most droughts, winds, and bushfires. Beyond its lovely color, the flower is also praised for its fragrance, which is often used in perfumes and bath herbs. National Wattle Day is celebrated on September 1.
