-Many coffee farmers are forced to sell their crops to middlemen at less than the cost of production, forcing them into debt and a cycle of poverty.

-Fair Trade coffee alone may not be an adequate solution.

-From our experience and many others, the fair trade wage is simply not enough to put children through school, to provide enough food for families, or to provide farmers with a

reasonable quality of life. The San Lazaro Commitment:
-To pay employees 25% more than local fair wages and provide specialty medical care.

-To treat our employees with dignity, respect, and love through personal relationships to ensure that each individual is given the opportunity to thrive, not merely survive.

-To use 100% of our profits to support the Mission Lazarus Refuge children’s home.

-To use organic methods to produce our coffee

-To cut out the middle-man and act as a single sourced-coffee to guarantee fair wages for our employees.

-To bring you a cup of coffee that has consistently scored as a “specialty coffee.”

As we approach the time for back to school activities here in the states, we can't help but think of our amazing team in Honduras and the three women who are working towards their own education.

Karla is one of our brave sisters who takes our adult education classes on Saturdays. At 30 years old, Karla has a strong desire for self-improvement and dreams of graduating and continuing to university. She had previously been unable to study due to the needs of her family.
