I am so, so excited to announce that I’ll be hosting our first REIGNITE Retreat - A Women’s Art, Creativity, & Wellness Retreat - at the Brown County Barn Burner this June 2-5, 2024. 🎨🧘‍♀️
This intimate retreat is designed for women seeking a chance to unplug, explore their creativity, and rejuvenate their spirit in beautiful Brown County, Indiana.

Our spaces are meant to be shared.
We built the Barn Burner so all four units can be rented individually or enjoyed as a whole.
We planned our dining tables so multi-generations can gather for dinner or a game of cards.
We furnished our living rooms so the pieces can be sat on, climbed on, and sunk into by all the members of your travel party.
We added a rooftop patio so conversations can linger long after the sun (and the little ones!) go down.
We created this space so you and your loved ones can travel in comfort and relax knowing that you are taken care of.
Throughout the Brown County Barn Burner, there’s plenty of space to spread out or come together - whatever you’re in the mood for - and enough nearby activity options to suit the interests of everyone in the group.
Check out the details of each of our spaces, and book your next visit at the link in my bio or bcbarnburner.com

Our family loves to travel, it’s true.

Earlier this year, I (hey, it’s me, Kara Hammes, owner of the ) had the opportunity to travel to Morocco (a dream!) with my mom and sister-in law. And just last month, Clint, the girls, and I ventured to Europe for an extended stay in Germany. We love to explore new places and introduce our girls to other cultures, and as much as we love the intimacy of a few people in our party, one of our favorite ways to travel is with our extended family and friends.

Why?
1️⃣You get more time together
✨If you don’t have a chance to get everyone together very often, it can take a while to get past the initial pleasantries and life updates. With a longer trip, everyone has plenty of time to connect and make memories on a deeper level.

2️⃣No one has to host reorganize their house or rent additional furniture
✨Once your group gets to a certain size, it’s almost impossible for one person’s home to host everyone comfortably. The host has to rearrange furniture to accommodate the group, rent extra tables and chairs, and let’s not forget the cleaning involved both before and after the gathering. Taking a trip removes all these barriers to having a large group get-together.

3️⃣Kids can go down for the night, and the adults have time to have conversation of their own
✨Let’s be real, it’s so great to take the kids somewhere new and see their faces light up at these new experiences…but sometimes these faces turn to tears of anger when parents pick the wrong restaurant with the weird white mac and cheese instead of the orange kind. When you take a trip together, adults can put the kids down to rest and then relax on their own.

4️⃣Lasting memories are made by doing something new
✨Did you know that research supports the idea that visiting a new location and taking part in novel experiences primes your brain to make new memories? So what better way to make use of your precious time with your favorite people?

If you’re looking for lodging that was built with large group travel in mind, we’d love to host you at the Brown County Barn Burner. Head to our website to check upcoming availability and to book your next group trip.

👉Why is the Brown County Barn Burner built as a space that can be shared? Because family reunion trips and group vacations are our favorite! 🤗

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Some of my best memories from childhood (hey, it’s me Kara!) involve trips taken with close friends or extended family, and I’ve loved continuing those traditions now with our families and our close friends.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Clint comes from a large family and is one of four kids, plus lots of cousins, and has his own tales of cross-country travels, family reunions, and the many memories made.

These memories - and the people in our lives - are a big part of why we designed and stocked the Brown County Barn Burner the way we did, and why we prioritize hosting large groups that are interested in booking the entire for their trip.

👉Why are family reunions and group trips a great fit for the Barn Burner?

Special consideration has been given to groups and families that are traveling with kids. Each unit comes stocked with a Pack ‘n Play with sheets, a highchair, kid’s plates and utensils, a retractable gate on all stairways, blackout shades and curtains in bedrooms, plus a selection of blocks and games.

The separate units and bedrooms mean that kids can be put down for naps or bedtime while adults gather on the rooftop patio and have some time to themselves to catch-up.

👉We also make a great location for:
📈Small business & executive leadership teams
Our lodging plus on-site Event Space can be a great option for small to medium sized teams.

🧘‍♀️Retreats
We’ve hosted yoga and meditation on the rooftop patio and in the Event Space, weeklong musician retreats with daily jam sessions, “Make It, Take It” style craft workshops, and much more.

👰🤵Wedding Groups
The Brown County Barn Burner offers the perfect space to bring together your families and friends, and provides spaces to get ready, take pictures, and gather over the course of the festivities. The on-site Event Space is a great option for your rehearsal dinner, welcome party, day-after-wedding brunch, or small reception.

Watching the flickering flames while wrapped in cozy blankets and surrounded by good company and conversation 🍂🔥

In these moments, time seems to slow down. Laughter mingles with the scent of toasted marshmallows, and stories are shared as freely as the leaves falling from the trees. It's a time of connection and comfort, and moments like these are often the lasting impressions we talk about years after our vacations have ended.

If you’re looking for a fall getaway with friends or family, where the world outside fades into the background and all that matters is the warmth of your company and the dance of firelight, the has limited dates available this fall.

From the baby bathtub we keep on hand for traveling families to flossers in the bathroom and extra linens and pillows stored right where you’d keep them at home, we want the little things we do to make a big difference in your stay.
All those "little things" our team handles take TIME ⌚, THOUGHT 🤔, and CARE ✨And we hope they convey the excitement and gratitude we have for each and every one of our guests

Can you feel it in the air? Summer is slowly drifting into fall. 🍂🍁
It’s almost that season where the greens of summer fade to gold, spices of cider float in the air, geraniums and wildflowers are replaced by mums in planters up and down the streets, and the warmth of the bonfire feels downright heavenly in the crisp autumn air. 🍃
When we started drawing up the plans for the Barn Burner, we knew that creating a welcoming outdoor space was a must. Not only because autumn in Indiana is perfection, but also because it’s necessary for families traveling with kids or large groups that want to maximize their limited time together.
👉 If you opt to stay in our 1️⃣-North unit, there is a private ground-floor patio attached. Furnished with a gas grill, chairs, and a table for lounging, dining, and relaxing, it’s perfect for families with kiddos who need to get some energy out.
Our property also has our rooftop patio (my favorite location in the Barn Burner!). The rooftop patio is furnished with plenty of chairs, tables, and stools for lounging, dining, and relaxing, along with a gas grill. There are two covered overhangs with ceiling fans to help you stay cool during the still-warm daytime hours, and a 6-foot long linear gas fire table to keep you warm long after dark. 🔥🌠
If you’re still thinking about where to travel with your group this fall, we invite you to the Barn Burner in Brown County, Indiana. 🍂🍁

A little while ago, I was told by someone visiting Brown County that they “wished someone had told them that the majority of shops, restaurants, and in-town activities are all closed on certain days so that they could have chosen other dates or another town…”
Now, after talking with them further, we cleared up a few misunderstandings that they were operating under.  I was able to recommend multiple stores, restaurants, and activity options that they could do that day and I know from their later feedback that they had a great time.
BUT, it got me thinking.
Brown County and Nashville, Indiana are unique and visiting feels like a ‘step back in time’ for many.  This is part of its charm and appeal as a destination, but it also means some people may not be prepared for what they’re going to encounter once they get here.
So I decided to pull together this list of random (but important) tips to share with our future guests at the , and anyone else planning to visit Brown County.
Swipe for all 5 tips and let me know in the comments if there’s anything you would add!
01 - Almost every shop or restaurant here is a small, independent business that’s either run entirely by the owner, or that has only a very small staff.
02 - As small businesses with limited staff, these places all set their own hours and policies.  Although there are always exceptions, a lot of businesses here have more limited hours than what you’d find in a larger city.
03 - There are almost no public transportation or rideshare options available.  If you’re visiting, you either need to have a car or motorcycle, or be willing to walk or bike to locations near wherever you’re staying.
04 - There are still areas of the county with extremely limited or no cell service, especially if you use certain carriers like AT&T.
05 - If you’re coming to Brown County, you’ll be encountering nature at some level.  That means you should be prepared for bugs, birds, deer, and the occasional snake.  It’s OK, I promise!
What do you think?  Anything you’d add to the list?  If you’re planning a trip to Brown County, is there anything you have questions about?

Our spaces are meant to be shared.
We know how much work and thought goes into planning any trip, especially for a large group or family, and how frustrating it can be to find lodging that checks all your boxes.
But the Brown County Barn Burner was designed and built specifically with large groups in mind, so we've already taken care of everything your group could reasonably need to enjoy your stay.
So whether you’re planning a:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family reunion
🎂 Long-awaited birthday getaway
📈 Retreat for your small-business team
🚴 Week spent mountain biking the local trails with friends
💡 Or almost any other idea you can dream up
We’ve got you covered.
Our four lodging units, plus the Event Space, are all in the same building and have a total of 9 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.  Between the 14 beds (3 King, 5 Queen, and 6 Twin XL), plus 4 sofa beds, we can accomodate up to 29 people.
Each unit has its own kitchen, dining and living areas; laundry; on-site parking space; WiFi; and access to the shared rooftop patio.
Throughout the property, there’s plenty of space to spread out or come together - whatever you’re in the mood for - and enough nearby activity options to suit the interests of everyone in the group.

...swipe and you'll see that the week of May 25, 2020 was definitely a week of dealing with all the under-the-surface pieces (like HVAC and insulation).
These things are crucial to the space being functional and well-designed, but they aren't noticed in the end if they work as intended.
I'm sure there's some sort of metaphor for life in that last paragraph, but I'm too tired to find it. 🙃
All I know at this point is that this dining area in 3-West is my favorite spot to gather at the (besides the rooftop patio), and I definitely never think about how the vent lines were run while I'm in here.
So....success! 🎉
