🚨 GIVEAWAY ALERT 🚨
The holidays might be over, but winter is still in full swing, and February is a big birthday month for my family. Mine is the first one up, so let’s celebrate!
We’re hosting a giveaway this week to do that, while also sharing a few of my favorite things and highlighting some of the businesses featured in our ‘Where to Shop in Brown County’ guide.
We’ll choose two winners on Sunday, Feb 5 and each one will receive over $150 in Brown County goodies, including:
💸 $50 gift certificates to the The Toy Chest AND the Nashville Spice Company - Each of these shops has a website and accepts online orders. So while I’d love for you to plan a trip to shop in person, you can use these gift cards online if needed.
Plus a box of goodies from some of my favorite spots, with things I use extensively at the #browncountybarnburner and at home:
💎 A Brown County geode and metal vase/pitcher from the Brown County Antique Mall - I love the organic touch a geode adds as decor and vintage metal vases go with any flower arrangement and are practically indestructible.
🍄 Morel mushroom beeswax candles made by riversandroadsllc (1 large and 1 small) - these are so cute, burn really well, and help me remember that spring is just around the corner. Rivers & Roads LLC is also vendor at the Nashville Indiana Farmer's Market !
🍻 Barn Burner koozies - both can and bottle size, because you never know what you’ll need
👃 And one of our reed diffusers, made in collaboration with Maddox & Rose Marketplace with our custom scent blend of oakmoss, campfire, and elderflower.

During winter, the blooming amaryllis in thrifted silver bowls are bright spots in each of our units at the #browncountybarnburner 🌸
.
I love adding special touches like this whenever I can, but do you want to know something that makes me even happier? Something that you might not even notice if you weren't looking for it?
.
Every one of our dining areas has enough seating for the number of guests that the unit can sleep 😱
.
That might not seem surprising, but I've found that it's definitely not a given at all Airbnbs, especially ones that are supposed to host larger groups.
.
I've been doing a lot of lodging research lately for some of our upcoming personal trips and I've been reminded (and irritated to no end) all over again by this pet peeve of mine. 🙄
.
So next time you're planning a trip - especially if you like to cook or eat in at all while on vacation - make sure you double check the pictures and count all the dining chairs/seating options before you book!
.
Or, book your stay with us at the Barn Burner and you can rest easy knowing that I've already got you covered on dining chairs and seating options. 😉

.
Winter is a great time to visit Brown County and we've got plenty of availability in the next two months, so head to the link in my bio to check out each of our units and book your stay today!

Bye, bye fall....and hello, holidays!
As we head into December - and so much holiday fun in Brown County, starting this weekend! - it felt good to switch out the planters to something more festive (especially since Indiana served up a 60+ degree day yesterday for me to get it done. Today it was in the 30s...typical Indiana 😨)
These planters are a mix of fresh, dried, and faux and I think they hit just the right balance to stay looking great for our guests until spring. This is my second year using most of these elements and they've held up great.
This space on the rooftop patio is just one of the areas of the #browncountybarnburner that will be available to participants of our first "Make It, Take It" holiday workshop with Laurilyn Farms Laurilyn Floral Design Sweet Meraki Designs Offbeet Bakery on Saturday, December 10th. This Friday is your last day to get your tickets, so head to the link in my bio for all the details and to get yours today!
We've also got some remaining lodging availability next week and the following week, but after that we are booked for the rest of the year. We are so thankful to all the guests we've been able to host this year, and look forward to many more new faces and memories made in 2023!

Tickets are still available, but spots and lodging options are filling up for our first holiday "Make It, Take It" workshop at the #browncountybarnburner!
So gather your group (or come by yourself) and make plans to join us on Saturday, December 10 to enjoy festive food and drinks while you relax, create, and connect in Nashville’s newest lodging and Event Space at the Brown County Barn Burner.
All supplies and instructions needed will be provided and you’ll leave with new skills, fresh inspiration, and several handmade holiday-themed items. No experience necessary for any of the activities. Total cost for the workshop is $125 and includes the following:
🎄 Custom 24” wreath or holiday centerpiece made with guidance from the @laurilynflowerfarm and @laurilynfloraldesign teams. Design, assemble, and learn to care for your creation so that it lasts through the holiday season.
📝 Hand-lettered tea towel created with Caitlyn of @sweetmerakidesigns - The perfect functional item to brighten up your own kitchen during the holidays or to take as a host gift.
🍬 Cookie decorating with supplies and inspiration from Sara of @offbeetbakery
☕ Along with festive snacks and drinks, additional holiday craft inspiration, and access to the rooftop patio and other spaces of the Brown County Barn Burner.
Two time slots will be offered - 10am - 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. At check out, you’ll indicate which time slot you prefer and whether you want to make a wreath or a holiday centerpiece.
Lodging is available for Saturday night at an additional cost.

Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and I'm busy getting my own house ready to host family this weekend.
Thankfully all four kitchens at #browncountybarnburner (one in each unit) are already fully stocked and ready to go for our guests, whenever they arrive.
From pots and pans to plates, cups, utensils and serving ware to cooking basics like oils and spices, we've got everything you could reasonably need to easily prepare and serve meals during your stay.
Whether that's a full on Thanksgiving feast, a simple breakfast of eggs and toast, or reheating leftovers from one of the many restaurants in town - we've got you covered.
And while I personally love cooking, even when we're on vacation, I know that doesn't work for every group or every meal. Which is why we've also partnered with other local businesses like @bonafidebitescatering that can deliver everything from prepared foods to groceries and charcuterie platters to your unit prior to your check-in.
I also love sharing recommendations with our guests and am always happy to answer questions about what restaurants you should try, what shops in town sell specialty foods or general groceries, and how we can help our guests make their stay EASY and ENJOYABLE for everyone involved.
We've still got some availability remaining in early December, and we're offering lodging options for our "Make It, Take It" Holiday Workshop participants on Saturday, December 10th, so there are a few more chances to stay in 2022!
We're also booking into 2023, especially for larger groups that want to rent the entire space (the best way to experience the Barn Burner, in my opinion) so start those conversations as you're seeing friends and family over the holidays and let me know if you have any questions about booking!
Hopefully you're headed into a happy holiday season and we'll get a chance to host you soon.

Thanks for all the love on my post about our journey to Brown Co! But I know that everyone is really wondering how in the world did we go from the Barnyard Shoppes to the Barn Burner?? The short version is that we bought the property in July 2018 and went through many revisions, doubts, and long nights before finally securing our financing in March 2020. We closed on our construction loan ~4 days before the world shutdown due to Covid, but we were able to complete construction in 7 months and we welcomed our first guests on Nov 13, 2020! . Of course, there were lots of twists and turns in those 2 yrs, so here are 5 things we learned along the way that might help you too: . Before you even start, spend time figuring out what you actually want and need out of life. This will look different for everyone, but will be invaluable in narrowing down your options. . Get to know the role of and staff at your local gov’t departments, and get familiar with any applicable regulations and ordinances. It might sound boring but you need to know what the rules ACTUALLY say (not just what someone SAYS they say or how they've traditionally been applied). . Find a partner/business friend/confidant that you can bounce ideas off of and who will help you navigate through the highs and lows. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart and, no matter how determined you are, you will lose hope occasionally. . No one else will believe in your dream or your abilities as much as you do. No one. If you’re going to make a big dream a reality you MUST know your plan inside and out, be determined, and ready to sell the vision to others. Your resolve will be tested along the way (see * for what can help with that) but ultimately it all comes down to you. . In the end, you have to stay flexible, think ahead, and be willing to pivot when necessary. It’s a strange balance - feeling confident enough in your ideas to pursue them, while also being willing to change and roll with the punches tha
A layer of snow is on the ground, winter sunlight is breaking through the clouds, and it is definitely a "cozy up with your warm drink of choice" type of morning.
.
Luckily we stock just about everything you could need to start your morning off right at the #browncountybarnburner
☕Drip coffee maker and filters, a french press, and electric kettle
🍵Ground coffee and an assortment of tea flavors
🍯Creamer, sugar, and honey
🙌Mismatched mugs, so you can pick the one that is just right for you
.
It's BYO breakfast pastry though. Totally optional, but highly recommended. I picked up this almond croissant from @gallerypastrybar during an Indy errand run (and am still dreaming about how good it was) but there are plenty of more local options that you can pick up during your stay.
.
I always recommend @thebirdsnestcafebc and @ooeygooeyrolls (but the donuts and breakfast sandwiches at our local BP gas station are also a personal favorite, if you're ready for that hot take, lol).
.
I was actually getting jealous of the set-up we provide our guests, so finally had to make some upgrades to the set-up at our house too! Good thing, because my daughters have recently decided they are big fans of tea with honey in a mug to warm their hands. It's honestly too cute.
.
So what are you on these cold winter mornings - Team Coffee or Team Tea? Anything we're missing that we should consider stocking?

Video Walk-through of the Brown County Barn Burner
I feel like such a dork watching this of myself, but I'm so proud of what we've created at the #browncountybarnburner that it seems silly I haven't shared it until now...so I suppose the new year is as good a time as any to finally post this amazing video @bstarrcinema recorded for us a few months ago. 🎥
I don't have a good excuse for why it took me so long, but since I've heard it's better late than never, I hope you enjoy this peek into our spaces and the experience we're dedicated to providing for our guests. 👀
I'm still crunching all the numbers for 2021, but we definitely exceeded almost all of my goals for our first full year in business and learned a lot along the way. I'm excited for the opportunities I see coming together for 2022, and all the new - and returning - guests we'll be hosting this year. 💫
I know I need to do a better job sharing what sets our space apart, why our guests love it, and all the things I recommend for your trip to Brown County, so hopefully we can call this a good start and I'll keep working on the rest! Oh, and this video is also a stark reminder that we need to get that exterior sign situation remedied in 2022...turns out the list of a business owner is truly never ending 😬
So, Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for all of your support that has helped us get to this point - we're excited to keep going and growing in 2022. 🎉
And a special shout out and thanks to Clint for all he does and puts up with from me. The look he gave me when I told him there was a script for this video was priceless, but he went along with it anyway 😘
Head to www.bcbarnburner.com/about-us-video to check out the full screen format of the video and let me know if you have any questions!

The weather for Saturday's Brown County Community Bike Fest is looking August-level perfect (aka hot, sunny, and dry), just like today, so it's great seeing piece # 1...a tent for shade from Seward Party Rentals...fall into place in Lincoln Pinch Park today!
.
By Saturday we'll have moved around the tables and benches, added a pump track from @progressivebikeramps , and @browncountybikes will be setting up jumps and obstacles and a separate @striderbikes balance bike zone for littles.
.
When you arrive you'll want to check in at the Event Space at the Barn Burner (185 S Jefferson St) to get all the details, check out vendors and stations on Jefferson St, and of course head to Lincoln Pinch Park for all the great activities going on there.
.
This is TRULY an all ages and skill levels event and you can head to the link in my bio for full details and the schedule. We can't wait to see you there!
Wellness Collaborations at the Brown County Barn Burner
