About Us

Established in 1716, and shaped by people of Native American, African, French, British, and Spanish descent, Natchez is treasured worldwide as a living museum of Southern history. From rough-and-tumble beginnings of the Natchez Trace grew the richest city in America by the Mid 19th century. Cotton was king and Natchez a kingdom, resplendent with mansions of wealthy planters. Her location, high on a magnificent bluff, avoided destruction in the Civil War and today more than 600 examples of Antebellum Architecture remain. These, along with African-American heritage experiences, historic B&Bs, classic churches, carriage rides, festivals, evenings of music, theater, plus a host of colorful characters delivers a lively experience of what it’s like to be a Southerner, both now and then.

The Pilgrimage began way back in 1932, when the ladies of the local garden club opened their family homes to the public, initiating the first tour of its kind in America and igniting the spirit of historic preservation in our region. Then and now, all of our profits fund our preservation efforts.

Since then, the descendants of that first tour, along with members of the Natchez Garden Club and the Pilgrimage Garden Club, have preserved over 30 antebellum mansions, all of which are on the National Register of Historic Places and 12 of which are National Historic Landmarks.

Natchez Experience Tours and Events, provided of Natchez Pilgrimage Tours (NPT), is an arm of these clubs, and is the only full-service receptive tour operator in Natchez. We assist individuals, as well as large and small groups, in planning their visit to storied and magical Natchez.
