💙🩵💙SOLD💙🩵💙
To the most excellent home where he gets to live the dream life of being a young girls first horse.

Blue is in an Arab X gelding in his early 20s and just under 15 hands. His current owner has had him for 6 years and has had no soundness or health issues with him. She used to trail ride him in the forest often but he has been sitting in the pasture due to his owner not having the time or energy to ride like she used to. He rode off like he never missed a day. Great walk trot canter that I will get video of soon. He is a confidence builder/babysitter type. Perfect balance of not too fast but not one you have to kick to go every step either. Carries himself well and is fun to ride. A great long term home is a huge priority. He deserves his own person. Just one of those great ones to have around!

❤️ Ruby ❤️
14.3 4 year old QH mare that I hate to have to sell. I bought her so I would have something to ride when we were breeding my other mare and now that she’s back to work I need to sell one. If I had the space I would keep her because she’s such a pleasant mare to have around. Sometimes I forget she’s 4. I’ve never had a less buddy sour horse than her and you never know when she’s in heat. She has been off the track a couple years after a short lived career due to her not being bold enough to push past the other horses as a 2 year old. Definitely not due to lack or speed. I’ve rode her out a lot and she’s seen a lot of sights. She’s pushed cows, tracked the dummy a few times and I just started swinging a rope on her. I think she would be a fantastic barrel prospect also. She’s in a good place to go any direction. I would love to see this mare go do big things. I’ve always thought she was really special!

We had a Pleasant surprise this morning!

This filly was a rebreed from one the mare slipped last year by an extra special jumper stallion, Plesant.
I had the privilege of riding several Plesant babies years ago and am so grateful for the opportunity to have our own!

Too much of a good thing is not always a good thing.

Vitamin E is all the rage, and for good reason; it is an important antioxidant vital for neuromuscular function. While horses on fresh grass pasture generally meet daily requirements for vitamin E, most horses live with limited to no access to grass and require some level of supplementation.

Recommended daily intake of vitamin E based on NRC requirements is 1-2IU/kg of body weight (500-1000 IU for an 1100lb horse) per day, with a safe upper limit of 10,000IU per day. According to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, “above this level, coagulopathy and impaired bone mineralization have been reported. Furthermore, in healthy exercising horses, high dosage of vitamin E supplementation (10x NRC minimum requirements) was shown to be potentially detrimental to absorption of certain nutrients and is not recommended.”

Here’s the kicker. These recommendations are based on SYNTHETIC vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopherol). Natural vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is approximately 2-3x more bioavailable than synthetic (meaning more absorbable) and water-soluble vitamin E is around 6x more bioavailable, which increases serum levels faster, but is not necessarily any more beneficial at maintaining long term status than other forms (and some liquid e contains polysorbate 80, but we’ll skip that for today 😫).

Anyone see where I’m going with this?

If feeding 5,000IU per day of natural vitamin E, that’s equivalent to feeding 10-15,000iu per day of synthetic! 🤯 This doesn’t even account for vitamin E in your feed or any additional supplements.

Here’s the good news, vitamin E levels can be monitored through blood work. Less than 2 μg/mL is considered deficient. I strongly encourage you to work with your veterinarian and equine nutritionist to establish an appropriate level of supplemental vitamin E for your horse, and use caution when elevating vitamin E long term. Too much of a good thing, is not always a good thing.

This was a design we came up with years ago that will continue to be my go to for hay feeders in stalls. Very easy and affordable.

The boards slide in and out well to make cleaning them easy. I’ve had a couple of horses over the years that would mess with them and take the boards out. I just fixed that with a screw so the top board was secure. 99% of the horses never messed with them.

I also love that I can hang the grain in a fence feeder off the inside of these. Bonus points that their feed mess usually would land on the hay and get eaten better than if it were on the stall floor being a fly magnet. 🧲

There are various ways to deal with the problems which we encounter with our horses. Many times, people turn to instructional videos or books by accomplished horse trainers. This may be fine if the problem is properly diagnosed, and the correct prescription is properly administered. But if there is....

How Your Horse Sees – The Horse

Here is a great video about a horse’s vision. The least we can do for these amazing animals is attempt to understand their perception of us. Understanding their vision is a great place to start!

Dr. Sharon Spier, U.C. Davis, Calif., explains horses' vision; what a horse sees in a collected frame, equine night vision, how blind spots affect the approach to jumps, and much more!

Click here to support Jonny Millan Funeral organized by Jamie Wheelis

We are very saddened by the loss of a previous farm employee Jonny Millan. These selfless caretakers of our animals become family. If anyone who has had a horse under Jonny’s care feels compelled to donate towards his funeral expenses, you may do so here. The money will go to his wife Alma to help pay for his funeral.
Rest easy Jonny and thank you for touching our lives.

Hemos creado una cuenta Go Fund Me para ayudar a Alma con los gastos funerarios de Jonny. Cada poquito ayudará. Gracias y que Dios te bendiga.
