There are incredible nearby hiking trails around the Linville Gorge. One of our favorites is Shortoff Mountain (a 30 minute lovely drive from the house to the Wolf Pit Trailhead!, the hike itself is a 7 mile out and back) Don't forget to stop for post hike beers at Fonta Flora!

Hike to the summit of Shortoff Mountain, scoring gorgeous views of nearby Lake James and carving across the view-packed southern rim of Linville Gorge.
