House sold. All assets were donated: $213,000 to 27 nonprofits. Checks and letters were all mailed yesterday. So glad Jason's Getaway brought happiness to many families every year and now will help hundreds of people locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. Also glad that the new buyer is young, strong, full of dreams and loves the house. God had his hand in our closing just like he did in our opening. Jason's legacy lives on.

Hi! For all of you donors and families who stayed at Jason's Getaway these past 8 years, I give you thanks. For those of you who prayed for us, I thank you. If you volunteered or were on my board, I thank you. All good things come to an end. We closed on the house June 25th. Bittersweet right before Jason's birthday on the 30th. But now I have over $220,000 I can pass on to many worthy nonprofits. So our legacy will continue to impact many more people. That makes me happy. And the new owner is young, full of energy and excitement and love for the house and will use the house as a licensed AFL. And that makes me super happy.

House goes on the market tomorrow. Last guests are scheduled through May 19th. Sale of remaining house contents will be the end of May.

During 2023 we had 130 adults and 75 kids stay for a total of 152 nights. Night data is skewed a bit because January and September we had renters so 60 nights alone with them. Our expenses and income were nearly $30,000. First year they came out nearly even. Of course, our income includes donations and a grant.

Yesterday marked the 12th anniversary of when the Articles of Incorporation of Jason's Getaway were approved by the NC Department of the Secretary of State. I tried my best to listen to God and with the financial, physical, and emotional support of my friends and relatlives, make my vision come true.

Over the years, I've changed the model to make it more affordable, more accessible and more welcoming to all families-not just those with special needs. Unfortunately, I've never gotten a board of directors assemble that could help me recruit donors or guests. So JG has never been self supporting financially. Between spending weekends with guests, fixing up the house and bunkhouse, and supporting it every month monetarily, I am getting tired. I never thought of the future or of JG having an end date when I began this process. But I no longer can be a "1 man show". Instead of bringing me joy like it did for so many years it now brings me stress which last year greatly impacted by mental and physical health. Soon I'll be 68...it does make a difference,

So that being said, Jason's Getaway (the house)will be put on the market in April. The board's goal is to have a seller take ownership July 1st. All profits from the sale of the house will be dispersed to deserving nonprofits that have impacted Jason or my life and will be approved by the board.

If you have procrastinated coming to stay at JG for the first time or for a return visit, now is your chance. We have 14 weeks left.
Thank you for being a follower and if you've been our guest, we loved having you and you remain in our hearts.

I just found out that dear Mimi has passed away. We met her when we first moved to Charlotte as she was my supervisor ( can't remember their official title) over Phillip. When I began Jason's Getaway she and Jason's stepdad were my board members. She faithfully tried so hard to get donors, guests and helped paint the house so many weekends when we were renovating it. She faithfully served for 8 years on the board and was truly a believer in what we were doing. I've had 16 board members, but Marion Bessy was the best!

I'm very sad to share with our Jason's Getaway family, friends, and followers that Jason's mother, Jana, passed away peacefully at 5:15 this morning. While she is now without pain and at peace, please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. She loved Jason so much and was so proud of Jason's Getaway and what it offers and represents. In less than 3 years I can't believe we lost Jason and Jana. There definitely are holes in our lives and hearts now.

Thanks to a very generous memorial donation given I decided to get this whirligig for Jason's Garden area in honor of his birthday this year. I think he would of loved it. As much wind as we get up there it ought to be spinning a lot!

We're receiving a very generous donation from Rev. Linda Bowman. The majority of these funds will be designated for scholarships to Jason's Getaway. If you would like to come stay I'd prefer families who could pay 50%. So for a 2 night stay it would be $100. If this is something you're interested in please PM me with the dates you're interested in. Also if you have any questions let me know. For 3 nights it would be $140.

Sorry for the delayed post! We had our first community event partially sponsored by McDowell Endowment grant money. Foothills and Abound Health attended our Spring literacy multisensory event. We had all the fixings for nachos and a walking banana pudding.

Due to a last minute cancelation for next week, Jason's Getaway if available for Spring Break. If you don't have plans and were on the fence about getting away next week let me know.

Reminder that we're just $75/night....you can't find anywhere as affordable as us!

If you're a family with special needs I'll waive the cleaning fee.

So excited and proud that we just received a $750 grant from the McDowell Endowment to help cover the costs of our community events this year! First one( under the grant) is May 19th from 11-1. It'll be a multidisciplinary Spring event. Here's a few reminders of what we did recently. Thanks to our board members, volunteers and the staff and clients who attend and help out.

Our Lenten devotional on Monday spoke to me and how God pushed me to start Jason's Getaway. "Oftentimes, when God calls, our default response is " I can't ", when the more honest response would be " I won't" or " I don't want to". Sometimes this dishonesty springs from fear, when we use our abilities, or lack thereof, as an excuse to not follow God and respond to our creator's call. But our faith calls us to trust not only the abilities God gives us, but also our Creator's role in nurturing those gifts." Thanks to Reverend Linda Bowman for helping me and encouraging me.

We had an awesome work day on Saturday lead by Clyde and Linda Kay Hewitt. We had some wonderful young people and their parents show up to help. So much mulch spread plus branches trimmed, leaves raked and railroad ties moved. A delicious hot dog meal were served to all 11 volunteers. A very successful day!

Saturday, March 18th we will have a work day from 9-4. Hot dog lunch will be served. Main jobs are mulching the picnic area and Jason's Garden plus working on our trail( while there's no snakes out yet). Especially if you live in the Marion area, we sure would love to have your help! We need to get the area ready for our community events!

3/2 marks the anniversary of when Jason's Getaway was incorporated 11 years ago. Many changes and improvements have occurred, but the concept and mission remain the same. Who knew what would have happened when God chose me for this ministry?? If your family hasn't experienced Jason's Getaway I hope you're able to soon.
