Veteran's Day is just under a week away, but we think that they're worth celebrating beyond November 11th.
Visit Rome has the privilege of hosting the “Working Warriors” traveling exhibit from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison through the month of November. The exhibit will be on display now through the end of the month and is available to view during our operating hours of 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Water. Aqua. H2O.
However you refer to it, there's no denying that it serves as the lifeblood of Rome. After all, what's Rome without its four lakes or all the fun we have when we play in and on it? As precious and abundant of a resource it may be, it is very important to keep our waterways clean and chemical-free today and for years to come. One group that continues to advocate and educate about this topic is the 14 Mile Watershed Alliance--a citizen-led group of representatives from each of our lakes, Adams County, the DNR, and other cooperators such as the Petenwell & Castle Rock Stewards (PACRS) and Tri-Lakes Management District.

Every day it seems to be getting darker earlier, and the time change this weekend certainly added to that. Allow us (or better, The Tri-Norse Ski Club and Winter Park) to shed a little "candle"light on the situation!
Come out to the Tri Norse Winter Park on Friday, November 15th from 6-8 PM and enjoy a candlelit hike around the grounds. If you've been on our candlelight hikes during the winter, this is a nice in-between where it's not too chilly but still feels like fall.
Even if you get a chill, warm up in the Chalet with some free hot cocoa, provided by Visit Rome

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, ROME!
It was such a "treat" to see everyone that came and participated in the Kids Halloween Party last Saturday. We're not playing "tricks" on you—we estimated that over 400+ costumed kiddos came through the event and it was our biggest one yet.
Thank you to all those involved in spreading some Halloween cheer throughout the Town Center!

With the help of some SUPER cute superheroes, we've compiled a list of some of the best fall activities to do in Rome and the surrounding areas. Of course, there's more than what we listed here, so feel free to write down YOUR favorite fall activity in the comments below!

Most ATV/UTV trails seem harmless enough in the daylight, but what happens when goblins, ghosts, and skeletons take over at night!?
Join the Monroe Prairie ATV Club for their annual Halloween Hunt this Saturday from 7-10 PM (registration starting at 5:30) at Buske's Bighorn Bar & Grill. It is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
Bring your spotlights and flashlights and search the trails for Halloween items; the more you find, the better your chances of winning a cash prize.
The event will also include a 50/50 raffle AND anyone in costume will have their name put in the pot for a $25 drawing!

Almost 75% of military work is considered “non-combat,” yet it does not detract from the honor of being a veteran. From beauticians to dentists, cooks to mechanics, photographers to police, these roles play a key role in every-day military operations.

Visit Rome is lucky to host the “Working Warriors” traveling exhibit from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison. The exhibit will be on display through the end of November during our open hours (9:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday). Come by our office sometime in the next month to view these incredible photographs and read some of the stories from the often overlooked parts of military life.

We are approaching "peak season" in the color changing of the leaves, so it's perfect timing that the Tri-Norse Colorama is happening tomorrow at the Tri Norse Winter Park. Come enjoy the sight of autumn leaves around the property and from the top of the 55M ski jump. You can even see the fall colors of FOUR counties from the peak!
It is a hike, but never fear! You can enjoy a courtesy UTV shuttle to the top of the hill if you'd prefer! (sponsored by Sand Valley)
Once you're done, do a little shopping with area vendors and enjoy a bowl of soup or chili while listening to some live music at the chalet!
We hope to see you tomorrow at Tri-Norse!

November 23rd is the OFFICIAL "Eat A Cranberry" day, but we think that cranberries should be celebrated all year round!

-The "Cranberry Highway" of Wisconsin spans almost 50 miles from Wisconsin Rapids to Warrens, passing through Pittsville, Nekoosa, and Tomah. This time of year is perfect for taking a drive and watching the harvesting process, as cranberry harvest season takes place between late September and October.

-Cranberries got their name from cranes, or at least how the flowers resemble the head of a crane (hence, crane-berry became cranberry)

-If you've ever joined us on one of our "Traversing the Trails" hikes, you've likely had a sample of Wisconsin cranberries! We get our trail mix from 45 Mercantile in Wisconsin Rapids, who specializes in all sorts of local cranberry goodies!

Whether you love to see the sea of red, taste the sour and sweet treats, or enjoy cranberries for all they are, we're wishing you a happy cranberry season!

(because we couldn't pass up a Northern Lights AND cranberry bog photo!)

Are you in the Halloween "spirit" yet? We have two more spooky-season events to highlight in the Rome area for you (and all your ghoul-friends) to attend.

First, the Lester Library will be hosting a "Paranormal Wisconsin" program this Saturday at 10:30 AM. Come hear tales of ghosts, UFOs, mysterious creatures and the unexplained from Chad Lewis, a researcher/author/lecturer who has spent 30+ years searching the world for these types of stories and legends. This program will focus specifically on the "weird and wonderful" things in our state and is open to all ages (though we encourage parents/guardians to decide if a spooky event is appropriate for your child).

On both Saturday the 19th and 26th, attend the "Spirit Walk" at Historic Point Basse in Nekoosa from 6-8 PM. Walk around the historic buildings to meet many of the former residents of Point Basse and citizens of the era. As you explore, expect the spirits to emerge from their surroundings to tell you about themselves and the time in which they lived.
