One of the toughest decisions to make on Monhegan Island is where to hike! 🌲👣
Monhegan features around 9 miles of hiking trails winding through the wildlands and along the shoreline. You can even scale Monhegan's coastal cliffs, which are among the highest in Maine!

December is here! ❄️ As we begin the winter months, we'd like to revisit a question that we get quite often: are puffins related to penguins? 🐧
The answer is NO! While they do have similar body shapes and colors, they are actually in separate families. Penguins are in the family Spheniscidae, while our puffins are in the family Alcidae, more commonly known as the Auks.

One of the many animals that can be seen aboard a Hardy III cruise are seals!
We have two types of seal species that we commonly see in Maine: the harbor seal and the gray seal.
Did you know that, because of their un-rotatable back flipper, seals move in a caterpillar-like motion on land. This movement is called "galumphing"!

Welcome back to another fun fact Friday! Did you know that Monhegan Island Lighthouse sits at an incredible 170 feet above the high-tide line?
This gives you an incredible vantage point, where you're able to see the Village and harbor, Manana Island, and the mainland. On a clear day, you can even see the Camden Hills in the distance!

Hardy Boat Cruises is a family-owned and -operated ferry and tour boat focused on environmental responsibility, education, and stewardship. We pride ourselves in providing one-of-a-kind Maine adventures on beautiful Muscongus Bay.

In addition to Puffin Watches, we provide ferry service to Monhegan Island. Dubbed “the crown jewel of Muscongus Bay,” Monhegan sits 10 miles off shore and is a destination for artists, family vacationers, hikers, bird enthusiasts, and craft beer aficionados. The small wintertime fishing village transforms a nature-lover’s paradise in the summer months. With 12 miles of hiking trails and the tallest sea cliffs on the coast of Maine, Monhegan is perfect for a day trip, or stay the night at one of the many accommodations on the island.
