Oceanfront Cottage awaits patiently perched on beams as the area is prepped for pouring the 12' concrete piers that it will sit on. This little cottage has been through quite an adventure this year, starting with surfing on an enormous wave in the Jan 10 storm, then undergoing repairs before accommodating summer visitors, and now bringing it up to code by moving it the required distance back from the water and raising it above the flood zone. We look forward to giving it a rest once this is all over in the spring! Thanks to everyone who's worked so hard to save #8 and give it a more secure future!

Book in the Spotlight: 'The Maine Play Book' by Jennifer Hazard. This thoughtfully compiled book guides you through both little-known and popular fun activities throughout our great State. It features lots of activities in the area including Pemaquid Beach, Damariscotta's Alewife Festival in May, and the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta in Oct as well as other sites and festivals state-wide. Holiday Happenings: Yesterday Santa paid a visit at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. . . in a helicopter!! You should've seen the smile on our boy's face. ❤️ The fun was topped off with a candy cane from Santa and some hot chocolate--what a treat!
Thanks so much to Bristol Bristol, Maine Fire and Rescue and Bristol Parks and Recreation - Maine for organizing this fun event for all the kiddos!!

Happy 150th Birthday to the Thompson House!
Here are some of my favorite details showcasing its Victorian charm: square dentil work and star brackets on the porch trim, brass doorknob plate, carved newel post, carved dresser handles, and triple (?!) crown molding around the doors.

Community Matters: next time you are food shopping take a minute to throw in an extra can of soup, loaf of bread or fresh fruit to drop off at the food pantry on the way home. This suggestion from a friend inspired us yesterday. The Caring For Kids shed by the New Harbor Fire Station is always open. They also accept in kind donations (see their website for more info: caringforkidsofbristol.org). The New Harbor Methodist Church food pantry also accepts contributions. So whether it is adding an extra item to your grocery list or dropping off unopened food after vacationing in the area, help a neighbor, lend a hand. Than you to all those who coordinate these great resources.

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all who have served our country. Here's a tribute to one of my favorite veterans: Dan Thompson (1918-2012). The newspaper clipping is from an interview with Grampa in 2006 conducted by Peter Hope and published by the The Lincoln County News . Thanks to Peter for preserving his memories!

Happenings in the Hood: Today we had a neighborhood tree banding party and we banded 14 trees! It's right around the time when winter moths (Operophtera brumata) emerge from dormancy in the ground. Flightless females climb up the trees and males fly up to meet them in the treetops. Come spring, the resulting eggs hatch into gazillions of those annoying little green caterpillars that eat all the leaves, stream down on threads and p**p all over your car! We're being more proactive this season hoping that our mighty oaks will last another hundred plus years!

Behind the Scenes: Flip through for a step-by-step progression of the Third Floor Apartment bedroom makeover! A big shout out to our trusty painter Scott Spyropolous for removing the old wallpaper, replastering, sanding and painting the room this beautiful baby blue (Benjamin Moore's 'Clear Skies'). What a difference a fresh coat of paint (and a lot of labor) makes!!
