Our client, the University of New Haven, asked us to renovate the Peterson Library to meet the needs of today’s students. In keeping with the university's desire to provide space for students with neurodivergent space needs, we are designing a sensory room and 3 student rooms on the third floor incorporating soothing colors, comfortable seating, and inviting lighting. These are just some of the areas that will undergo transformation. Stay tuned for updates!

Occupant dispersion studies are key to designing safer, more efficient buildings. By analyzing how people move through spaces, architects can reduce congestion and improve evacuation routes, ensuring both safety and accessibility. Here we performed studies as the Associate Architect with Pelli Clarke & Partners on the Connecticut Science Center, an exercise we complete on most public buildings.

Richard Turlington Architects was retained by the University of New Haven to assist with program and conceptual design development for this state of the art biology lab that serves the local coastline. This is a 2,000sf teaching lab with all the traditional equipment for teaching biology in a saltwater environment: fume hoods, bio-safety cabinets, centrifuges, chemical storage, neutralizers and microscopes all in a beautifully designed space for generations of marine biologist to come!

When design fails to meet desire, we end up with something the Dutch call "elephant paths": those well-trodden shortcuts cutting across lawns and gardens that deviate from planned pathways. Also known as "desire lines", these trails reveal the routes people prefer to take. By observing and incorporating these paths into design, architects can create more intuitive and user-friendly spaces 🐘

In 2015, The Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, South Korea, designed by Zaha Hadid, “Queen of the curve”was the most Instagram tagged location in the whole of Korea! The Design Market inside the building is never closed, so people can soak up the culture and shop at the Dongdaemun Market all day, every day. Did you know? The architect, Zaha Hadid, has never designed a building with a right angle in it.

FUN FACTS!! Completed in 1970 & located in Santa Monica, CA, the Gertler Residence was designed by renowned architect Raymond “Ray” Kappe, who built the home on a densely populated lot of trees with canyon & treetop views from every angle. The home’s structure is made up of 8 redwood towers & the foundation was built around a eucalyptus tree. The home consists of three-stories, four-bedrooms & three-bathrooms all made up of redwood & glass.
