Known by those from the Connecticut Shoreline for weddings, reunions and weekend getaways, the Water´s Edge Resort in Westrbook, Conn. has withstood the test of time. Like the Madison Beach Hotel, this resort is one of the few on the Connecticut shore (Long Island Sound). Located just off Route 1 (Boston Post Rd.) the resort offers everything from outdoor dining, a swimming pool, massage, a nice setting for a drink and sweeping views of the Long Island Sound. Originally built in the early 20th century as a private residence, it was sold during the great depression and converted into a hotel (Hahns). By 1982 the hotel had fallen on hard times but was saved by a New York real estate developer who brought it back +1 to it´s earlier glory.

Bar Harbor,Maine is quite the drive from the lower New England Coast but is well worth it. The Shore Path gives stunning views of Frenchman Bay and historic late 19th century cottages.
