Festively Gay Things to Do in Nola Daily Spotlight: Two art shows take lace this evening, Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The first is from 6 - 8 p.m. at the the French Consulate located at 2406 Prytainia Street. The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to September 8, 2024, will boast the slogan “Ouvrons grand les Jeux” (Games Wide Open). In resonance with France’s values of equality and inclusivity, this year’s Games will organize the first ever “Maison des Fiertés” (Pride House) - a space to celebrate underrepresented communities. Here in New Orleans the Consulate General of France and Villa Albertine will celebrate these same principles of inclusivity and sports diplomacy through the lens of photographer Camille Farrah Lenain who documented NOLA-based team “The Rougaroux”, Louisiana’s first LGBT+ and inclusive rugby team. This series, part of a worldwide initiative created by French Photographer Emilien Buffard, “Sports Friendly”, also features players’ personal testimonies about their journeys toward the Rougaroux and how the team was a game changer in their lives. Lenain’s intimate approach highlights the joyful and stimulating environment of the field and invites the players to reflect on their own experience.

The second is "Le Sanctuaire: Intimacy, Community, and Sacred Space, ” ann art show at UNO Gallery on St. Claude from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. located at 2429 St. Claude Avenue. Join NOAGE and the John Burton Harter Foundation for an exciting new art exhibition featuring artwork from a diverse group of contemporary LGBTQ+ artists with ties to New Orleans, including Andrew Lamar Hopkins, Benry Fauna, Brad J. Dupuy, Claire Ragland, Colin Roberson, E Marshall, Trenity Thomas, Tyler Rosebush, and soilsoul, alongside work by the late J. B. Harter, whose paintings & drawings explored and documented gay male culture of the 1970s and beyond.

Bullets are flying at the Azienda Theatre in Chalmette for their latest production of Assassins. I just saw the show and it was a thought provoking musical romp through the minds of nine people who killed or attempted to kill U.S. Presidents (6/21/24). The show was good with a great cast including the talented Chris Arthur as Charles Guiteau, the man who shot President Garfield. Also Vieta Collins and Lauren Gauthier as Squeaky Fromme and Emma Goldman were wonderfully paired and played their scenes together perfectly. The show is Fridays through Sundays until June 30. 🏳️‍🌈✊🏾 On this meaningful day, we celebrate the intersection of Pride month and Juneteenth. Juneteenth marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, a crucial milestone in our ongoing journey toward equality and justice. As we honor the history of the landmark day news of emancipation reached Galveston, TX, we recognize there's still a long road ahead for racial equality. Let's stand together in solidarity, celebrating love and diversity while advocating for a future where every person can thrive without discrimination. Happy and Happy ! 🌈❤️

June 4 fact from https://people.com/human-interest/pride-month-history-facts-june-1-to-7/:

“June 4, 1925: Henry Ge**er, Founder of First Gay Rights Organization in the U.S., Gets Arrested

Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame inductee Ge**er is best known for co-founding the Society of Human Rights in 1924. The pioneering non-profit was the first of its kind and distributed a newsletter, Friendship and Freedom, which was sent to a small membership.

However, in July 1925, a wife of one of the co-founders reported her bisexual husband to police, resulting in a police raid that got Ge**er and several other members arrested. The costly trials left the gay rights activist broke and without a job, causing the organization to fold.

Ge**er died in December 1972, but lived to see the Stonewall Riots, which would lead to another important push for the LGBTQ movement in the U.S. and around the world.”
