The Historic New Orleans Collection is honored to present a new collection of narratives documenting the social aid and pleasure club parades that fill each . These narratives were compiled from interviews conducted by the Neighborhood Story Project, a collaborative ethnography organization in partnership with the University of New Orleans, and done in connection to THNOC's 2021 exhibition "Dancing In The Streets: Social Aid and Pleasure clubs of New Orleans." They include more than 30 club founders, presidents, and longtime members of African American social and pleasure clubs and benevolent associations.

Cultural anthropologist Rachel Breunlin worked with the interviewees to develop the narratives and select accompanying images from photographers throughout the city that are important to the organizations. Told in the voices of the interviewees themselves, these stories shed new light on the lineages of parading organizations and the neighborhood traditions and practices of second line parades.

Didn't realize it's taco tuesday til after we ordered- needed a "small" lunch before big dinner plans... oh well! Barracuda on Tchoupitoulas doesn't disappoint- great courtyard, excellent drinks & great food. Pro-tip, try the sweet potato taco mixed with one of their pork tacos, you don't have to be vegetarian to enjoy veggies!

I got this great, shining review! “Our day with Michelle was amazing, even better than what I imagined. We only had a 24 hour period in New Orleans, and all wanted to do different things. This tour was a great way to capture all 3 of them! I wanted amazing food, because what is New Orleans without amazing food, my aunt wanted a locals experience and my cousin wanted to learn a bit about the history. We got all of that in our 3 hour tour. Michelle was a great story teller, let us know all about the history of the area, and let us experience what the locals do. Every stop we made had amazing food. That roast beef po boy will follow me in my dreams forever. With her guidance, we were able to eat and drink like locals, and have the best day. I will absolutely book another tour with her, and would highly recommend.”

Please vaccinate or be forthcoming with your tour guide if you are not- tours are back and not all guests in attendance know each other. Some have pre-existing conditions that keep them from receiving the vaccine and make them vulnerable to Covid. With your help, we can make sure to keep them safe, so PLEASE inform your tour guide upon booking if you are not vaccinated so they can make sure the other guests are not put at risk or book a private tour. Together we can all enjoy our travels!

This bday girl celebrated her 21st in NOLA with her mom & we had so much fun! Frozen irish coffees and bday dollars - it's a tradition in New Orleans to pin $1 to you - strangers will tell you happy birthday & some will give you money- and bartenders might give you shots! Celebrate you- we only get one life and so many bdays, so live large!
