The Orb Valley in Languedoc is not just known for Food and Wine but also the deep History of the participation in the French Resistance. Hemingway’s son Jack both fly fished for trout in the Orb and worked with the dedicated French Resistance fighters. Here is a map of important events from the Orb to Olargues on the Jaur and up into the Espinouse mountains. Gorgeous nature with a powerful history!

We are two university professors with PhDs in History and Comparative Literature. Our tours go beyond organic wine and food to include History, Culture, Art, Music and Nature. All of which are in abundance in the Orb Valley in France and in the Vaud in Switzerland.

Over the years, we’ve visited vineyards and tasted more organic, natural and biodynamic wines than we can remember...and have seen more of Languedoc than most native French.

La Mirande Tours are not for everyone. They are to other tours as "Natural" wine is to other wines. Don’t expect us to lead you by the hand every minute of the day to the same tourist-overrun hotspots. Don’t expect five-star accommodations that look and feel like every other five-star accommodation in the world. Don’t expect the usual band of entitled retirees making unreasonable demands.

Groups are limited to 8 or less, and the focus is on fantastic organic wines, great food, and adventures not usually available to those without a familiarity with the language or friends who live there. We can arrange trip extensions to let you learn to fly-fish in the cleanest river in France full of wild trout or kayak the river Orb or just chill for a while before or after your Wine Tour.

Zoom sur NOËL FORESTIER
S'il était né le 25 décembre 1926 à Estréchoux, c'est aux chemins de Fer à Bédarieux qu'il travaillait.
Il intègre le groupe FTPF dit « des isolés SNCF » le 15 décembre 1943. Il est affecté le 1er mars 1944 au groupe FFI « Thibault ».

Noël Forestier est arrêté à la gare de Béziers le 8 juin porteur d'un sac à dos rempli de grenades. Il sera sévèrement interrogé au Chateau Baldy à Bédarieux. Son compagnon Roland Mas réussit à s'évader et à rejoindre Bédarieux. C'est lors des opérations pour le rechercher que le jeune Frank Escriva (13 ans) sera mortellement blessé par une b***e perdue.

Noël Forestier sera déporté le 10 juin vers Dachau d'abord puis dans deux autres camps et il mourra de dysenterie le 15 décembre 1944.
Il avait 18 ans.

Zoom sur ANDRÉE DE ROCHEVIEILLE
Née le 9 septembre 1915 à Toulon, elle s'engagera dès l'automne 1939 dans la Croix Rouge comme infirmière. Après avoir été ambulancière, elle rejoindra un hôpital dans l'Est de la France où elle organisera l'évasion des officiers Français promis aux camps de concentration par les N***s.

Arrêtée, elle s'enfuira puis rejoindra la résistance. De Montpellier via Roujan puis Bédarieux, elle atteindra Saint Affrique où elle deviendra Odette, agent de liaison des maquis de l'Aveyron

C'est elle qui sera chargée de porter, en vélo, les ordres du maquis vers Béziers mais elle sera interceptée au col de Petafi par un camion allemand et fusillée sur le bord de la route. Elle avait 28 ans.
