So I’m going to see this movie about the French Emperor Napoleon and they said he “Came from nothing and Conquer Everything” well this is wrong because he never conquered Haiti. Haiti whoop France and Napoleon ass and declared themselves free men thus establishing the second republic in the Western Hemisphere and having the only successful slave revolt in the world! The lost of Haiti bankrupted the French economy and caused them to sale their massive colony in North America to the new United States and is known as the Louisiana Purchase! Thank You Haiti 🇭🇹 if you going to tell a story tell it correctly or don’t tell it at all

Today Know NOLA Tours would like to wish a Happy Birthday to one of the most influential Black New Orleanians in history Jordan B. Noble! Know NOLA Tours honors and remembers drummer, black military serviceman, and New Orleans black community leader Jordan B. Noble on the anniversary of his birth! Born enslaved in Georgia on October 14, 1800! He and his mother were brought to New Orleans where at the age of 14 he was forced to join the 7th U.S. Army Regiment! It was in this role that he played the drum beat during the fire of bullets and danger as his fellow soldiers went on to win The Battle of New Orleans. As a veteran of the Battle of New Orleans Jordan would march with the color solider unit annually in remembrance of The Battle. Jordan marching and playing his drum at the official parade for The Battle of New Orleans made him one of the first widely known and documented black musicians in the city of New Orleans by both black and white citizens! He eventually was able to buy his freedom and the freedom of some of his relatives. Jordan additionally served in other American wars such as the Mexican American War and lead black men to organize their own units for the Civil War! After the Civil War he became known as a community and civic leader! He was also the first black man to be hired as a city defective. He would occasionally pull out the drum he used in the Battle of New Orleans and play it around the city at parades, protest, funeral and events! He became affectionately known as “Old Jordan or Old Man Jordan” He died in 1890 after a long life of fighting for freedom, justice, liberty and music in New Orleans! Today we remember and celebrate the birthday of Jordan B. Noble the man with the drum!

Today salute the Indigenous People of this land! The people who lived, developed, made homes, and shared this land before anyone else! So we salute the Chitimacha, Coushatta, Choctaw, Houma, Tunica, Biloxi, Atakapa, Cadddo, Natchez, and Choupitoulas nations who were enslaved, killed, r**e, forced off their land and made to live in environments that were not their ancestral homes. We honor and remember you our people on Indigenous Peoples Day! The first people of what is now Louisiana! The first people of Bulbancha which is now called New Orleans! Today is one of my favorite ancestral energies birthday! Marie Laveau The Queen of Voodoo! People be lying on my baby about who she was and what she did but Marie Laveau was a devoted Catholic and a beautiful free woman of color who defied the social order of the day to become a powerful and respected black woman figure in the Deep South! She was brilliant and strategic. Everyone went to Marie for counsel my baby and that’s a fact! She built a brand that last until this day and because of that and as always I respect you and honor you for your service to our city and to my ancestors Madam Marie Laveau! Have a great day today Marie Laveau! honors and respect you!

From Happy Juan San Malo Day! For some it's just Juneteenth the day the news of emancipation reached our enslaved brothers and sisters in Texas in 1865. However for me it is a day to remember one of the greatest freedom fighters in the history of New Orleans! Jean Saint Malo or Juan San Malo in Spanish was an enslaved African who decided to run away from his plantation in Louisiana to live in the swamp and bayous outside of New Orleans. He established a community of hundreds of Africans in the swamp who lived freely. They were called Maroons by the Spanish. The Spanish Louisiana Colonial government attacked and hunted the Maroons to rid the colony of the threat of these wild Africans. They also focused on capturing the leader of the Maroons Juan Saint Malo. They were unsuccessful until 1784 when he was captured. One of the reasons the Maroons were hard to captured was their skill ability to fight back. Malo was hanged in Jackson Square on June 19, 1784 along with several of his comrades. Their bodies were allowed to rot in the square as an example. As time went on he became known as the saint of the runaways to the Africans in New Orleans. His spirit of independence and freedom remains with us. So on this day we salute the African Juan San Malo or Jean Saint Malo for living and remaining FREE! Know NOLA Tours

Happy Jerome Smith Day!! From Know NOLA Tours Today is a New Orleans Holiday! Today we celebrate a man who has done a lot for New Orleans! Today is Mr. Jerome Smith Birthday! He is better known by his community as Big Duck. Jerome Smith is a civil rights icon who served as an early member of the New Orleans Chapter of CORE. He participated in the marches and sit it ins along Canal Street and in other areas in New Orleans. He then went on to be a Freedom Rider to desegregate the interstate bus system where he and other Freedom Riders were beaten in Mississippi! Mr. Jerome Smith never stop advocating for community and children and was proud to be the founding director of The Treme Center. In 1968 he founded an organization Tambourine and Fan to instill the importance of culture, history and traditions to New Orleans youth! During COVID he organized food give aways and relief programs to help the community during the Coronavirus Crisis! He still advocates for children, culture and Black Rights. At 84 years young he is still a warrior for our people and community! Happy Birthday Jerome Smith and Happy Jerome Smith Day!! (A New Orleans Holiday)
