Some Shotgun house facts!
"They are well suited to warm climates. Their narrow, front-to-back design, with doors aligned in a row, aids air circulation during the summer. The houses often do not have windows on side walls, as their close proximity to neighbouring houses does not allow for ventilation or light from the side. Such close proximity does, however, maximize socializing, with residents often sitting on front porches and chatting with neighbours and people passing by on the street. Inhabitants of shotgun houses also live in close contact with each other, since the lack of hallways requires residents to pass through each other’s rooms." - Britannica

Who We Are

New Orleans Native Tours was started by my mother and me to show visitors why we love our city the way we do. After growing up in New Orleans my family and I moved away, each year missing our hometown more and more.

We finally decided to move back to New Orleans, returning just weeks before Hurricane Katrina hit. We found ourselves yet again leaving the city we love so much. A couple months went by and it was time to get back and join the rebuilding. After the hurricane we noticed how many people from around the country and world care about New Orleans the way that we do. It was great to see the progress our city was making from year to year and we wanted to share it.

Eventually we decided to start New Orleans Native tours, giving tours from our perspective. We work together and focus on our most recommended City/Cemetery Tour as well as our Plantation Tour. All of our tours are kept small and personal, never exceeding 25 people. This coupled with our comfortable buses, hotel pick up, and laid back feel allow our visitors to sit back and learn about our city without the hurried and impersonal feel that many large tours tend to give. Our tours give information ranging from history and architecture to food and local events.

Whether you’re here for a family vacation, a convention, or just a quick getaway we have a tour for you. So join us on one of our daily scheduled tours or contact us about setting up private group tours or transportation.
