We visit Treme during our Citywide tour in New Orleans. Treme is the oldest African American neighborhood in America, and Inside of Louis Armstrong Park is one of Treme's most historically important landmarks, Congo Square. As early as the 1740's Slaves were allowed to play African drums on Sundays.

The Garden District is one of New Orleans’ most interesting areas if you’re really into architecture and million dollar homes. The Robinson Mansion dates back to the 1870s and has a ballroom inside. It recently sold for upwards of $4,000,000!

THREE KINGS' DAY 🟣🟢🟡

New Orleans has always celebrated its Catholic heritage, beginning the New Year with the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th – also known as Twelfth Night as it falls twelve days after Christmas. It commemorates the visit of the Three Magi to the infant Jesus, and so it some places it is also called Three Kings’ Day.

In New Orleans, however, it marks the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of the Carnival season – and the permissible consumption of King Cake ("Le Gâteau des Rois" in French, "Roscón de Reyes" in Spanish, "Torta Re" in Italian, and " Dreikönigskuchen" in German). Each culture has their own traditional and popular recipe for king cake and only in New Orleans would someone be so adamantly loyal not only about the ingredients in their favorite king cake recipe, but also to their favorite bakery. The one thing that all New Orleanians can agree on, however, is that our New Year’s diets do not begin until Ash Wednesday.
