Santa the NYC Tour

Santa the NYC Tour A true magical history tour of Santa Claus's NYC, which made him world famous, and Santa started in Santa Claus NYC Tour

Santa Claus grew up in New York City!

Grandson of St. Nicholas of Myra, Son of Dutch SinterKlaas, Santa Claus was summoned to New York City to promote the 3Ps. Peace (tolerance and family-oriented), Patriotism, and Prosperity (gift giving). Surprised? Me, too! Santa Claus' story could only happen here in NYC. Let's paint the town red, and celebrate the jolly old man's New York City history, and how we helped spread Santa's fame across

America and the world. This three-and-a-half hour tour, suitable for children, believers in Santa, and history-loving adults, explores Santa Claus' youth in New York City, where he grew up from elfish youth to rotund man who brings joy and generosity to the holiday season. Let's see where his first factory, electric Christmas trees, and his reindeer carrying sacks of toys were first seen and described. Tour is based on the upcoming book, "Interview with Santa Claus," by Jared Goldstein, your Tour-Guide. This is a history tour for adults who love Santa Claus history, most of which happened along this tour's route. Little Santa Believers will enjoy the creative non-fiction, magical-realism stories about Santa's development. Parents will be informed, surprised and entertained. This is not a tour with lots of puppets or props. Bring your own if you want! There will be walking, and stairs to subway rides. Vehicular transportation can be arranged, but Santa's sleigh is unavailable. We'll have fun: Guaranteed. Jared has been touring New York City since 1985. My tour-guests enjoy my enthusiasm, energy, customer service commitment, and knowledge. And sometimes my droll wit.

I'm narrating about NYC's deep connections with Santa Claus, an historical webinar that touches upon peace (instead of violence and bigotry), patriotism, political networking, and prosperity.

Santa is naughty and nice!

This is not necessarily for children. If little Santa believers are along, please prepare them that this historical survey may not match your family's view of Santa.

Happy St Nicholas Day Eve.

1624-1822: Dutch Nieuw Amsterdamers and New Yorkers Celebrate Sinter Klaas' Eve (St Nicholas Day Eve).

The evening is still the traditional Dutch night of gift-giving and gifts from Sinter Klaas, who, with Black Peter, goes down the chimney after landing on the roof with a flying horse.

Sinter's gifts go in the good childrens' wooden shoes. Bad children get a switch stick.

Chirstmastime is not a big gift giving day for the Dutch, more of a quiet church and family time.

They celebrate him on the eve of his Saint Day because the Dutch Reformation prohibited celebrating Saints Days, but Saint Nicholas is very popular!

I hosted a Santa Claus' NYC webinar.

I am spending most of the proceeds to pay for my holiday gifts! :D

The rest will go to the Jacob Riis Youth Academy to help kids succeed through education and activities that make a difference. Jacob Riis enlisted Santa Claus to inspire generosity, including founding that youth center over a century ago.

WBAI Radio Archives

Santa Claus and I are famous on WBAI radio! It being that station, some radical themes, that I don't usually touch on, are explored.

The interview starts around 28:00 minutes in and concludes at about 45:47. We touch upon some Santa Claus' heritage, especially from NYC.

There is also an introduction at around 19:38-24:00 in which they grapple partially with the questions 'Who is Jared Goldstein' and 'Who is Santa Claus'?

How can you listen? Visit http://WBAI.org/archive.php ,

Then you will see a slot that says "All Programs" . Select "Talk Back - New York, We and Thee edition" (shortcut: tap the T key four times).

Click on "Go."

Select Wednesday, December 21st 2016. Click listen.

Interviewers are John McDonagh, Malachy McCourt, and Corey Kilgannon, who wrote my "Character Study" in last Sunday's New York Times.
