I take 1 / too lazy to read, wait for the film to come out 😂

There’s no point talking about the summit day without first talking about the climb from C3 to C4, as the two days are directly related.

The Yellow Band in Mount Everest is a prominent geological feature located on the mountain’s upper slopes. It is a section of rock that is notable for its distinct yellowish coloration, standing out against the predominantly white and gray hues of the surrounding ice and rock. The Yellow Band is composed primarily of marble and quartzite, and it marks a significant point in the ascent, often encountered by climbers on their way to the summit.

This band lies above the Geneva Spur and below the Balcony on the southeast ridge route, a common path taken by climbers. The rock’s composition and the altitude at which it is found (around 8,200 meters or 27,000 feet) present unique challenges, as climbers must navigate this section with careful attention to both the technical aspects of rock climbing and the physiological demands of the high altitude.

At 6:00 am on May 21, 2024, I, along with .vig and Budhha stood atop the world’s highest peak and are now safely back in Base Camp.

The Everest summit ridge felt different than my previous experiences on the mountain. There was soft snow, many cornices and rocky sections covered in snow. The weather station was even half buried in snow.

After summiting, we crossed the Hillary Step, traffic was moving slowly then suddenly a cornice collapsed a few meters ahead of us. There was also a cornice under us.

As the cornice collapsed, four climbers nearly perished yet were clipped onto the rope and self-rescued. Sadly, two climbers are still missing. We tried to traverse yet it was impossible due to the traffic on the fixed line.

Many climbers were stuck in the traffic and oxygen was running low. I was able to start breaking a new route for the descending traffic to begin moving slowly once again.

We returned to rest at Camp 3 and proceed back to Base Camp on May 22.

After the cornice collapsed.

Photo: Everest Chronicles
Once again, climbers are missing above 8,000m on Everest in the middle of summit waves. Two Mongolian climbers disappeared after they departed Camp 4 for the summit. They were climbing without supplementary O2 or sherpa support.
Usukhjargal Tsedendamba and Prevsuren Lkhagvajav last made radio contact with Base Camp as they departed Camp 4 at 7:30 pm on Sunday. They planned to reach the summit the following morning but never contacted Base Camp again.

Climbing ladders on Everest is a common practice for mountaineers tackling certain sections of the route, particularly in the treacherous Khumbu Icefall. The Khumbu Icefall is a notoriously hazardous section of the Everest climb, characterized by shifting ice seracs, crevasses, and towering ice formations. To navigate this terrain safely, climbers often use aluminum ladders secured by ropes to bridge gaps and crevasses.

Climbing ladders on Everest requires a combination of skill, strength, and focus. Climbers must carefully balance and secure themselves while ascending or descending the ladder, often while wearing heavy mountaineering gear and carrying a backpack. Safety protocols are paramount, with climbers typically clipped into fixed ropes for protection against falls.

While climbing ladders adds an additional element of challenge to the Everest ascent, it is a necessary part of the journey for those attempting to reach the summit. The experience of navigating the Khumbu Icefall, including using ladders, is both physically demanding and mentally exhilarating, contributing to the overall adventure of climbing the world's tallest peak.
