This is Nahandi. A beautiful Golden Tabby Tiger that I’ve worked with 🐾 In my opinion she is the most beautiful tiger I’ve ever seen. She’s also one of the rarest. The Golden Tabby Tiger is an extremely rare color variation that comes from a recessive gene.

According to what I could find online the first Golden Tabby born in captivity came from two standard orange Bengal Tigers who both carried the gene. These Golden Tabby Tigers are so rare that there are estimated to be less than 100 of them left in the entire world!

Some safaris are slow, others are action packed. The day I took this image, it was both.
After a few hours driving around seeing animals but no real photo opportunities, I spotted two nomadic male lions walking in the open grassland. A large herd of buffalo was off in the distance. One of the males decided to run towards them with serious intent. I was confused as the lions were out numbered 100 to 1, they were never going to win, but the lions knew something I didn’t.
A small clan of hyena was causing chaos amongst the buffalo herd, they had stolen a new born calf. The lions had smelt this and moved in, but the buffalo were not going to give up easily. As the lions assessed the situation a few brave buffalo chased them away. It took the lions a few attempts, but they eventually got the calf. Looking to go on an African Safari? What’s in a name?⁣
⁣
This cranchiid squid, Helicocranchia, has quite a few nicknames from our deep-sea biologists. It’s called the pig-nosed, helicopter-tailed, and hippo-squid, depending on who you ask, of course. What nickname would you give it?
