Hot Spot Africa has discovered that the Zanzibar Island is much more than a stopping point on an itinerary, it’s a destination in its real sense. The island provides is a unique combination of outstanding beaches. And the following are the exciting activities to look out to along its eastern edge: visiting a working spice farm, and the cultural delights of Stone Town and Arabian fortresses and minarets.
To be candid, the island is a fairly undeveloped one, notably around 5 main roads, and all leading the way back to the main town, Zanzibar, on its western edge. This simplicity makes it an ideal destination to tourists that are looking to explore a little as, should you reach the beach, you know your journey have taken a twist! In geographical term, the island is only about 40mks across and 100kms from north to south at its broadest points. The island embodies outstanding, powder white beaches along its eastern shores and bordered by barrier reefs, and the UNESCO World heritage site of Stone Town on its western edge. The Island is known as Unguja in Swahili, and is fairly narrow, with a ridge running through its centre from north to south.
Notably, along its eastern coastline runs a protective barrier reef and then the Indian Ocean in sight. This is where the best beaches are located, all with coral white sand and gently lapping waters. The sight will remind you of the ambience of nature. Zanzibar Channel is located along the western side of the island and it’s where the main town (Zanzibar Town) is located. Also notable is the famous UNESCO World heritage site of Stone Town. The location, couple with the barrier reef and outstanding beaches, Zanzibar can offer all of the attractions that everyone craves, such as glorious beaches, fresh seafood, scuba diving, and lots more. For tourists who are super active, there is a little forest in the interior called Jozani. This forest is home to the indigenous red colobus monkeys. You also find the spice tours in one of the small farms around interesting. And outside the Zanzibar Town itself are a charming glimpse into why the island has become one of the most preferred destinations in Africa.
