🐘 Dreaming of a safari escape? But overwhelmed by planning, logistics, reviews, comfort? Here is how to pick the right country and lodge for your safari:

👉Time of year: not all of Africa has the same climate in each part of the year. Every country and even region is a different climate and therefore a different experience. If you’re looking for the Great Migration in Kenya, it’s different than the time of year for Tanzania. We suggest either deciding on a destination, a time or year, or an even (like the wildebeest or bat migration) to plan your trip around.

👉Logistics: there are camps you can drive to, there are some that outside of a 10 hour drive, it’s a flight! Consider this when making your plans. If you aren’t fond of smaller planes, then choosing a place like Kenya where road travel is easier makes more sense. Also consider the flights and stops. When visiting the Serengeti it’s possible in the lower season to stop up to 4 or 5 times at different air strips. Opt for a private charter to avoid this on your last day of safari!

👉Post Safari: while safari is one of the most amazing experiences you’ll have, it can also leave you feeling a bit tired. I love opting for a post-safari beach relaxation piece! This could be Zanzibar in Tanzania, the beaches and islands of Mozambique, and even an easy hop to the Seychelles or Mauritius are easily accessible by flights from most major safari destinations.

👉Specialty: there are many destinations known for specific species, but also lodges that offer those extras. If you’re an elephant lover, head to Botswana, for African wild dogs Zambia will be your spot, if you’re a photo enthusiast then many of the lodges have hides by water holes for those epic pictures you see in magazines! The most specific you are when planning a trip, the most personalized the experience will be!

Forever one of my favorite travel memories ♥️

Six years ago while crossing the ferry from Barra to Banjul in The Gambia 🇬🇲 these little ladies changed me!

They were with family selling fruit and were very curious about us. After talking about their favorite subject in school (reading) and what they liked to do for fun, they noticed my nails. They said they had never painted theirs so a roadside spa day ensued 💅🏽

Hours of laughter later I left them with the bottle to take home. I still think about them often and hope they wear this color with pride.

Travel changes you in the most beautiful ways. Excited to be back in West Africa in a week ✈️
