Artistic legacy and AI integration bridge the past, present, and future in conceptual artist Anicka Yi’s film “Each Branch of Coral Holds Up the Light of the Moon.”

Hornet Director duo Laser Days merged their expertise in real-time game engines and generative AI workflows with Yi’s vision and artistic archive to explore how an artist’s practice might continue beyond their physical presence.

The team used Yi’s extensive studio archive to train and fine-tune their AI systems in order to create something entirely new while building upon an established body of work.

The film debuted as a projection at the LEEUM Museum in September 2024, as part of Yi’s exhibition “There Exists Another Evolution, But In This One.” The piece will continue its journey with an upcoming presentation at the UCCA Museum in Beijing in March 2025.

When the Grinch’s heart grew, though he felt quite a change, there was still much of Christmas that seemed rather strange.

For Christmas, he found, was far more than he’d guessed— It was sharing and cheer that made it the best ✨

For this charming McDonald’s spot, our team designed an extended world with classic Seussian whimsy in every detail, and brought it to life frame by frame with traditional cel animation. From the wonky curves of an umbrella stand to the textured line weight variations, every design choice also needed to be production ready and able to be animated efficiently.

🎄It was a joy to pay homage to the original 1957 Dr. Seuss book and tell a new story of the beloved characters.

In the third cinematic Kroger holiday campaign within our ongoing relationship with DDB, a story of curiosity and neighborly care reminds us that sharing is a key ingredient of the holiday season ❄️

In classic Kroger holiday fashion, the iconic “Kroji” design language established by Hornet’s César Pelizer is given a cinematic twist.

Brilliant color and lighting design guide the story from solitude to warmth and connection. And, as always, our CG and comp teams crafted foods so appetizing you can practically smell the aromas 🥧

How do we build a better world? 💭 To illustrate this question for 's journal, Hornet Director Kyle Bean () built an "urban environment on sunglasses to illustrate how ideal futures look different to everyone (everyone has their own lens)."

Welcome to Cell City, an ill-fated ecosystem freshly resurrected from our Pitch Graveyard 🪦

We sadly did not get this pitch, but we wanted to spotlight the incredible way Hornet Director designed this utopia seized by catastrophe 🧬

"I also thought it was interesting that something that is usually so active - a pencil - was now essentially frozen in time. I could try to write with the led of this pencil but nothing would come out. This paint tube would always be mid squeeze." – Julia Pott

For this year's holiday campaign, we developed a new look to tell the story of Jack and Isabela's family. All of the environments, from the neighboring houses to the kitchen decor, needed to be researched and rendered in new ways.

The house in the film helped tell the story of Jack's life from the 60's to the current era. The team looked at a Craftsman style home and how the woodwork, wallpaper, and decor would change over time. The house is its own character and set the stage for the story.

This year's holiday campaign is our most ambitious work in our three-year-long partnership with Kroger and .

For this campaign, we gave the characters an all-new, tactile look that still honors the original Kroji designs. The team added strategic detail to make them feel almost miniature and handmade- from adding fuzzies on the sweaters to defining the strands of the hair. Jack and Isabela's characters also needed to grow up over the course of a few decades, so the team researched clothing styles and fabrics from the 60's, 70's, and now.

October 10 is 💗
Valuing mental health has been an intrinsic part of Hornet's culture for 2+ decades, and the conversation has only grown over course of the pandemic.

Our workplace is built on the idea that mental health should be valued, promoted and protected. Everyone should have equal opportunity to enjoy mental health and access the mental health care they need.
