Keanu Reeves sacrificed fame, fortune, and, most importantly, time to be with his siblings. The actor and his two sisters were abandoned by their father at a young age, and Keanu decided that it was his responsibility to keep the family together.
In 1991, Kim, the actor’s sister, was diagnosed with leukemia while Keanu’s career was at its peak. The then fast-rising star sold his home to move closer to his sister and provide her with the necessary care, including cleaning her house, preparing her meals, and giving her the necessary medications.

It took ten years before the younger Reeves fully recovered. However, throughout the years, Keanu was there to support her while he put his career on the back burner.
The "Matrix" star donated seventy percent of his earnings from the first "Matrix" film to fund leukemia research — his first salary from the film was $45 million. He was against having his name mentioned and preferred to remain anonymous, and only years later did the story go public.
