Willis Tower Repositioning Project
Chicago, IL

A glowing staircase creates a grand entrance into the base of the tower, ascending through the blackened-metal cladding of the beam and columns. Mirror-like reflections from the glass guardrails magnify the impact of the backlit risers.

Willis Tower Repositioning Project
Chicago, IL

In-grade uplighting of the terra cotta walls extends into the skylit lobby. Uplighting the ceiling of a crossing bridge helps to reduce contrast with the bright outdoor views (and it also brightens the space on cloudy/rainy days, as seen here).

Willis Tower Repositioning Project
Chicago, IL

A 75’-wide white terra cotta portal frames the ‘jewel box’ entrance at Wacker Avenue. Lighting of the tower’s core wall 100 feet in from the sidewalk promotes transparency from the street, and silhouettes the tower’s structure exposed within the lobby. The textured portal is illuminated by in-grade grazers at the walls and three uplights concealed above the revolving doors.

Flight, the refurbished sculpture truly dazzles!✨
