The holy grail of jewish deli . The delicatessen comes from German immigrants, corning meat from the Irish, and the pastrama curing spice mixture from Romanians. Put it all together in the Jewish Lower East and you have an American-Jewish immigrant cuisine unrecognisable to the Old Country from whence those immigrants came.

The Bialystoker Synagogue is one of the last four functioning synagogues of the Lower East Side (there were over 600 in the year 1900). Rumored to have been a station on the Underground Railroad, it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity for those fleeing from oppression. Today we’re meeting with to forge a new partnership. Two thousand year old tombs in Jerusalem that inform about the Easter story. Jerusalem’s limestone geology yields lots of caves used for burials since the dawn of civilization. Family tombs would have a stone slab (see the benches in pic 1) where the body of the deceased would lay for a year or so until the flesh decomposed. Then after a year, family members would collect the bones into a bone-box (see pic 2) called an ossuary. The ossuary is the slid into the wall niches in the walls of pic 1. Jesus’ ancestral heritage was in Bethlehem, his family in Nazareth, but he was crucified in Jerusalem. So a follower, Joseph of Arimathea, donated his tomb for Jesus. If Jesus was a typical story from the time, his bones would have been collected after the flesh decomposed for a year, places in an ossuary, then slid into a niche, and the stone slab reused by the next deceased individual.

The Dead Sea is the lowest place on the surface of the earth, and getting lower all the time. Every year the water level drops another meter in depth (many more in shore line). Along its shores there is a marking from geographers for the marked the water level from 1913 - noting that the highway next to the rock would have been under water back then, but today is some 150 feet above the water level.

In the Main Hall of , there are two million artefacts as old as 5,000 years but the newest is always less than one week. The floral arrangements are changed to reflect the seasons (not adjusted yet for global warming) since Lila Acheson Wallace of fame gave a specific endowment in 1970.
