Have you ever heard of the sword in the stone? King Arthur and his knights of the round table? That may be a legend with no historical proof but this is different. Well there is a Ghanaian 🇬🇭 version with an actual sword 🗡️ involved.

The Asante conquered large parts of Ghana during the 17th century by overthrowing their powerful overlords, the Denkyira. Okomfo Anokye was essentially a cleric who served to rally the people to the cause of his friend the king. Anokye is also said to have placed a dagger in the middle of the Ashanti region, surrounded in a circle by the stools (symbols of authority) of heads of state, which the Europeans have not been able to take out with any type of technology for over 500 years.

Heck, Muhammad Ali tried in the 60s and couldn’t pull it out!

Naming Day in the Village! Euphoria Travelers experienced a real sankofa event with a naming ceremony in a local village. The chief and his elders gave them their day names as well as a family name and initiated them as members of the community.
