New York, Bagel Tasting Tour, 2 Hours–– “If you grew up in New York, and you’re Jewish, you grew up on bagels,” says your host, Ben. He loves both New York City and bagels dearly. “New York is a city of change, of evolution, of cycles, and it’s always interested me.” When he left the corporate world to give New York City history tours, he started to think, “What’s more New York than a bagel?” So Ben devised a tour that focuses on the history of bagels, with the history of New York City baked in. “Bagels came to the city in the 1880s with the arrival of Eastern European Jews. They baked bagels to support themselves,” he explains. On “Ess-a-bagel Making & Tasting,” you’ll meet Ben at a historic NYC bagel institution where you will learn about the history of the beloved bready treat from tenements to frozen food aisles.
