My dear friend and former business partner, Ruth Dunn aka Ruth Sinclair made her transition tonight into the realm of the ancestors. Ruth was an artist and an incredible contributor to the artistic design work of Khamit Kinks in the early 1980s through the 1990s. Styling natural hair was Ruth's passion and she used hair as her canvas. Ruth brought grand size cornrows, which I coined Goddess Braids, from Miami to New York. She was also hired as a consultant for Kaneka America , makers of Kanekelon hair fibers, to design synthetic textures that resembled human hair. Ruth was a true visionary of the natural hair industry. Travel light dear friend. Thank you, for all the ways you influenced me and our work together.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Khamit Kinks' client Suzzanne Douglas. Suzzanne was my first celebrity client.. Hired by Essence Magazine to braid Suzzanne's hair, I was in awe of her demeanor. In those early days, Suzzanne was no-nonsense, with a razor-sharp focus on her craft and career. Years later, when she visited our Atlantic Ave / Boerum Hill location, I noticed a distinct shift. Suzzanne had come into her own and was relaxed, gentle, and seemingly spiritually wizened. This was noted not by her words but by this new way of being. May this beautiful sister travel to her next destination in light, where I am sure she will continue to raise the bar of excellence.

The books I read to my son way back when won’t be read under my roof ever again... my daughter will grow up without Dr.Seuss unless it’s to educate her on how not to be/ think/ grow. Racism old and new must be stopped no matter what. When my library of books is unpacked ALL of his books will be burned 🔥 🔥 🔥 with intention and a prayer. His depiction of BIPOC is NOT our/ history periodt!
