"Japan is constantly changing on the surface," travel writer Pico Iyer explains of his home country for the last 30 years. Still, there's a strong reverence for tradition. "Down deep," he shares, "I don't think Japan changes much at all, which is part of the beauty and fascination of the place."
This week on #PassportToEverywhere, indagareceo Melissa Biggs Bradley sits down with Pico to discuss globalization, transcendent travel and the allure of Japan—a nation that balances antiquity, modernity and futurism, and that happens to be one of the most popular destinations to book now.
Tune in for Pico's travel suggestions and Melissa's tips for crafting a tailor made trip to The Land of the Rising Sun. Plus, Melissa highlights some of our favorite properties, like the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo as well as under-the-radar regions like Tango.

A dreamy day at Il San Corrado di Noto, as seen by Indagare Trip Designer Isabel Graubert.
"The hotel is situated among vineyards and olive groves, the service is superb, the hotel has soul and rich history but has a modern and sleek design," says Isabel. "It just works, perfectly." Highlights from her stay in one of the resort’s 26 spacious suites: the tranquil décor (with lots of light woods and flowy ivory-colored linens), the ample closet space (each stocked with custom straw hats and beach bags), the two gorgeous pools, and lunch at the hotel’s beach club, plus easy access to some of Sicily’s most beautiful Baroque towns.
Il San Corrado di Noto is also included in Indagare founder Melissa Biggs Bradley’s Sicily Cheat Sheet—where she recommends shopping the treasures in the gift shop (which is curated by the owner’s wife) and must-try brick-oven pizzas by the pool. Mother gorilla and baby in Rwanda
Spotted: a mother gorilla nursing her 3-month old baby.
In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Campus in Volcanoes National Park, Indagare’s Kathryn Nathanson is live from Rwanda as part of Indagare's partnership with Bank of America to film a live-streaming, private gorilla trek visiting the Sabyinyo family of Endangered Mountain Gorillas. The event includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Gorilla Fund Campus with its CEO, Dr. Tara Stoinski, who brought in special Fossey artifacts to be unveiled to the public for the first time. Each attendee to this event also received the symbolic adoption of a mountain gorilla, which monumentally helps in gorilla conservation efforts.

The Temples at Angkor
Angkor Wat “is a memory of a great past. It's something that is always very present in people's hearts,” says Ginevra Boatto, project manager at World Monuments Fund, the leading independent organization devoted to safeguarding the world’s most treasured places. Located in Cambodia’s northern Siem Reap province, the temple complex is the largest religious monument in the world and a powerful symbol of rebirth following the country’s tragic civil war and genocide in the 1970s.
In November, Indagare Productions Director Kathryn Nathanson met Ginevra at Angkor Archeological Park to film an exclusive live stream tour of the Phnom Bakheng temple for Bank of America Diamond Honors Tier Members. And, this week on #PassportToEverywhere, indagareceo Melissa speaks with Ginevra about how the WMF works with local communities to restore and preserve the temple complex. The episode is also packed with insider intel on the best way to see Angkor, must-sees in Siem Reap, off-the-beaten path day trips, and gorgeous new hotels.

Rains in the Okavango Delta
Okavango Delta's seasonal rains—usually from the end of November until March or April—attract and sustain a plethora of animal life in Botswana. The country is one of Africa’s biggest success stories: Its low volume, low impact approach to tourism has resulted in one of the best safari experiences in Africa.

Villa at Las Ventanas al Paraiso
Cabo’s Las Ventanas Al Paraiso, Spanish for “the windows to paradise,” has lived up to its poetic name since it opened 25 years ago. The iconic, romantic resort from @rosewoodhotels has 71 sumptuous guest suites, whose balconies spill over with pink bougainvillea. All are, quite simply, huge (the smallest is 960 square feet), and many feature outdoor showers, private plunge pools, rooftop patios and al fresco Jacuzzis. And thirteen luxury villas (pictured above) have their own infinity pools, massive bathrooms with outdoor showers and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass bedroom and living room doors that can be utilized to make the entire villa open-air.
