A walk through New York’s baseball history

Join us for an afternoon of seeing New York through its baseball story. A case can be made for New York City to be named the true home of baseball. From the earliest set of rules named after the Knickerbocker club of New York to the “Father of Baseball” Harry Chadwick, who wrote for multiple Gotham newspapers through which he is responsible for the surge in popularity of the game in the late 1800’s. There are also many firsts that occurred within the confines of the five boroughs. Premier among them is what happened on an April 1947 afternoon, on a corner in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, when Jackie Robinson took the field for the Dodgers.

We will be exploring all that remains of New York’s fields of dreams. With walks through the former sites of Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds as well as a stop at the current and former Yankee Stadium. We will travel by subway between parks, and I’ll introduce you to the significant baseball sites that we won’t get to visit through stories and photos. The three-hour tour ends at the House That George Built, and with preplanning, we can arrange to arrive in time for an official Yankee Stadium tour, or for batting practice before a night game. If the Yanks aren’t in town, we can always substitute a Mets or a minor league Brooklyn or Staten Island game.
