Join Flowers in the Concrete tours on Saturday November 2, the final night before the four months of standard time darkness, for a special post Halloween sunset walking tour of Liminal Brooklyn Heights.

Discover a neighborhood that is suspended between between city and suburb, between the land and water, between the present and the past. A neighborhood of gothic churches, cul de sacs and shifting sidewalk shadows. A neighborhood whose working class ethnic diversity drove HP Lovecraft into such a paranoid panic that it led him to dream up the Cthulhu mythos. A neighborhood whose fading aristocratic dottiness inspired the Halloween themed dark comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace”. A neighborhood whose position on the edge of urban decay led to it being depicted during the 1970’s as a literal portal to hell.

We will explore its 19th century streets, looking for hidden cemetaries and secret tunnels, search for the ghosts from it’s literary history, discover where George Washington and the entire Continental Army disappeared into the mist, before ending on the Pormanade to watch the setting of the sun.

Reserve your spot by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “Liminal Brooklyn”. There is no fee for this tour but tips are much appreciated.

I need to add at least one correction - 12 St Marks Place was indeed the German American Shooting Society, the German Odd Fellow Association was located at 69 St Marks near the Holiday Cocktail Lounge. Oooph! Really looking forward to meeting everyone who attends this Friday’s Greenwich Village At The Turn of The 20th Century tour.
