With performances November 16 - December 5 at the where the artist was honored as a Kammersänger last season during an on-stage ceremony, this production is conducted by Domonkos Héja and directed by Arnaud Bernard. Étude Arts celebrates Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha who makes his European Operatic Debut as Robert at the Volksoper Wien in the company’s holiday adaptation of Tschaikowski’s Jolanthe und der Nussknacker. Étude Arts celebrates the curatorial work of Nicholas Newton who, when not performing on the world’s leading opera stages, has been researching and advising for a recently unveiled exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit MM-O-DD entitled COMPOSED: Honoring Black Composers in Opera & Jazz. Nicholas Newton’s academic contributions supporting this exhibition are in tandem with his ongoing investment building a Black Opera Database; an in-progress resource created to archive, celebrate, and preserve the vocal compositional output of Black composers and works that chronicle the Black experience.

Bravo to you, Nicholas, and for helping to shine a light on the Art, Creatives, and Performers who are not as widely known or celebrated as some of their historical or contemporary peers and who are all too often excluded from mainstream conversations.

The distinguished Jury of the 2024 NEUE STIMMEN included chairman Dominique Meyer, Artistic Director of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Brian Dickie, former General Director of the Chicago Opera Theater, Sophie Joyce, Casting Director of the Opéra National de Paris, Samuel Gelber, Director of Artistic Planning of Washington National Opera, Sophie de Lint, Director of the Dutch National Opera, Bernd Loebe, Artistic Director of the Frankfurt Opera, Christoph Seuferle, Opera Director of Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Evamaria Wieser, Casting Director of the Salzburg Festival.

Past laureates of NEUE STIMMEN include Nathalie Stutzmann, René Pape, Michael Volle, Gwyn Hughes Jones, Hanno Müller-Brachmann, Elsa Dreisig, Nicole Car, and Pene Pati.

Recently graduated from The Juilliard School, Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha joined the Opernstudio at Volksoper Wien for the 24-26 seasons at the invitation of Artistic Director Lotte de Beer.

Set your schedules and join Kelley O'Connor, mezzo-soprano and pianist Brian Locke for a sumptuous recital program of Grieg, Poulenc, and Spano under the auspices of Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago.
