Place du Bareuzai, Dijon.
Officially name place François Rude.
In Burgundian dialect, Bareuzai means “pink tights”, part of a vigneron’s outfit ”. The statue represents a winegrower pressing grapes with his feet and wearing a bareuzai: pink legs from pressing grapes. It is also the nickname of local vigneron around Dijon.

There are so many amazing places to visit with their emblematic polychrome tile roofs in Burgundy dating back from the 14th century.
Les Hospices de Beaune, St Bénigne Cathedral and l’hôtel de Vogüe in Dijon, le château de la Rochepot…
These tile roofs are generally considered to be the third characteristic element of Burgundy after its wines and its gastronomy.
We will visit them of course!

Pruning season has already started a few weeks ago in Burgundy. The season starts once the leaves have dropped. This means that the sap has gone back down to the roots.
You can notice some smoke in the distance from the "brûlot". It is intended to burn the vine shoots directly in the vines. A multitude of models exist, depending on the imagination and cleverness of the winegrowers. This wheelbarrow and its fire is also intended to warm the hands of the worker.

The vineyards you can see are "le Cailleret" and "les Pucelles" 1er Cru in Puligny-Montrachet.
Puligny shares with Chassagne the most perfect expression of Chardonnay: a dress stitched with gold, shiny and haloed with greenish reflections. This tone increases in intensity with age. The bouquet of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation combines hawthorn, ripe grapes, marzipan, hazelnut, amber, lemongrass, green apple. Lactic (butter, hot croissant) and mineral (flint) aromas are usual, as well as honey. Body and bouquet merge in a subtle harmony: all the graces under an inflexible nature and a remarkable concentration!

Now time to taste some Puligny in a prestigious cellar!

Farmers' market day can be several mornings per week depending on the size of the town or city.

* Dijon: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
* Beaune: it is on Saturday.

Exploring a local market is an authentic experience.
You can really soak up the atmosphere!
Local markets are vibrant and bustling with activity. With the right dose of chaos and clutter, markets offer an experience for the senses for the casual visitor. Each market holds its unique combination of sights, sounds, smells, touch, and tastes, which you can explore at your own pace.
It is a great way to interact with the locals, learn about local cultures and buy some unique souvenirs, try some local food, and provide endless photography opportunities.

I love to spend time on local markets, answer questions and explain part of my culture to participants in my Private Tour of Burgundy!

What an educational and fun activity on a wine tour!

Today during our cooking class , participants voted for their favorite menu and made "Jambonnette de Volaille" or chicken thigh stuffed with cranberries and pumpkin with a creamy sauce on a hazelnut pumpkin risotto" as a main course and then "Chocolate and soft salted caramel tart". They learned lots of cooking techniques and enjoyed each others company.

Lunch was paired with 3 wines:
* St Veran, 2022 from Domaine Perrot
* Givry 1er Cru Champs Lalot, 2020 from Michel Sarrazin et Fils
* Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles Filles 2020, from Domaine Rapet

After lunch, we explored Gevrey-Chambertin and went for an amazing tasting of some of the 9 Grands Crus, Gevrey has to offer.
What a memorable day in Burgundy!

A must see in Burgundy!
The Château du Clos de Vougeot is the cradle of winegrowing in Burgundy. It was built in the 12th century by the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux and became the stronghold of winegrowing in Burgundy. In 1551, a Renaissance style building completed by Dom Jean Loisier gave the site the name "château". A historical monument, the Château du Clos de Vougeot is the head of the Confrérie de Chevaliers du Tastevin and the headquarters of the Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Any idea where this is?

The Benaton carrier, by the Burgundian sculptor Henri Bouchard, is enthroned in the central courtyard of the Château du Clos de Vougeot.

Clos-Vougeot has 4 enormous presses. The visit of the buildings of exploitation in the enclosure of the castle of the Clos Vougeot, allows us to understand the ingenuity of the monks who invented a system to press the grapes and to collect the precious liquid.
It was in the 12th century that the monks of Cîteaux built these buildings, cellar and vat house to house 2000 pieces of wine.
They selected the vine plants and improved the pruning of the vines
The vat house consists of 4 galleries of 30 meters by 10 meters around the small central courtyard, but it is especially its four enormous oak capstan presses that stand out.

I will take you on a private tour of the Château du Clos de Vougeot if you join us on our Burgundy Tours!

There are so many amazing restaurants to choose from in Beaune! You will not be disappointed. last night, we went to Biz'tro Chic & Gourmand.
Everything was on point and the way the chef balanced the flavors was exceptional. Sébastien Henry is so talented!

To pair the scallops with Tigecourt mini pumpkins roasted in chicken broth and hazelnut oil, I selected a bottle of St Aubin 1er Cru "En Remilly" 2020 from Domaine Roux Père & Fils. Hard to choose from such an extensive wine list!
Our Wine Detours guests had an amazing and unforgettable experience! They could not stop talking about it!
