“Just how much wind is a lot of wind? Is this a normal amount of wind?” Very few Competent Crew courses have learned how to sail in a Force 8. Winds touched 40kt our first day on the water, with a 90 nautical mile overnight passage from Stanley to the West Falklands, making the most of a short weather window. “Well, technically this is a gale.”

We are thrilled to share the first expedition and sail training experiences on board Amundsen, presently holding a Competent Crew course while a cruising expedition in the remote Falklands Islands.

Posted @vinson_of_antarctica The boat made it to her home land, Patagonia, Cape Horn and Antarctica regions. The southernmost village on Earth, Puerto Williams, Chile, has welcomed Vinson and her crew. The boat has been at sea for two months. Two young sailors from @cedena_puertowilliams sailed all the way down from Europe, in the first trainees program between the southernmost sailing school and Vinson of Antarctica. The J Class World Champion Lionheart, was completed by Claasen Shipyard in 2010. She was designed for racing at the very highest level and she is also a lovely crusing yacht - as is borne out by the owner and his family enjoying many wonderful cruises on her.
