‼️Attention Andover Township Residents‼️
With the impending winter storm quickly approaching, we would like to remind our residents of the local ordinances that are in place when it comes to snowstorms. Ordinance 10-23 prohibits parking on ANY street when the roads are snow covered. Ordinance 155-16 prohibits the casting of snow onto the streets and sidewalks. These ordinances are in place to ensure that our Department of Public Works can properly clear the roadways to make them passable and safe. Please be sure that all your vehicles, as well as any portable basketball hoops, are off the street prior to the beginning of the storm.

Please visit the following links to view the above listed ordinances in full.

December 27, 2024 - Important Reminder About Fireplace Ashes

Today at approximately 10AM, personnel from the Andover Township DPW observed a fire on a porch. They alerted the Andover Township 911 Center which then dispatched the Andover Township Police and Andover Township and Andover Boro Fire Department. Due to the quick thinking of the DPW, they removed the items on fire from the deck portion of the residence which included a chair and other items and then used a shovel and snow to extinguish the fire. Timing is everything and if it was not for the DPW personnel, this could have been much worse. Great job by the Andover Township DPW.

This provides us with the opportunity to provide a very strong public safety announcement to anyone who uses a fireplace to heat their home. It is extremely important to properly discard the ashes from your fireplace. The NJ Division of Fire Safety and the Forest Fire Service recommend the following steps to properly dispose of fireplace or wood stove ashes:

1. Scoop the ashes using a large metal trowel or pan, scoop all the ashes out of the fireplace. Lift large pieces out with fireplace tongs, if necessary.

2. Put the ashes in a metal bucket of water. Stir them to ensure that they are all completely submerged, and let them sit for about 10 minutes.

3. Pour out the water and empty the bucket in your garden or lawn. Wood ash works as a fertilizer for plants.

Please do not use any other container for your ashes other than a metal container. Be safe.
