On this day in 1901, Annie Taylor, a 63 years old retired school teacher was the first person to go ‘over the falls’ in a barrel. She survived the trip. Her manager toured the US with an imposter falsely claiming to be Annie. Annie died penniless 20 years later and is buried in a paupers grave in Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY.
