Niagara Falls USA is experiencing sub-zero (F) temperatures this morning for the first time since 2019. The Buffalo News photo shows a New York Power Authority ice breaker at work on the Upper Niagara River not far from the brink of Niagara Falls. 56 days until spring and a day closer to the start of the 2025 Maid of the Mist season. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited Niagara Falls in the summer of 1956. He preached at New Hope Baptist Church and was given a tour of the city, which included a stop at the falls. Today we honor and remember an icon of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29, 2024, was married to his late wife Rosalynn for 77 years. In July of 1996, the couple spent their 50th wedding anniversary in Niagara Falls, often referred to as The Honeymoon Capitol of the World. The visit included a meeting with the family of James V. Glynn, owner of the Maid of the Mist, and a ride on the iconic attraction that provides an unparalleled view of Niagara Falls.

The Niagara Falls Observation Tower is open through Dec. 23. The observation deck extends out over the Niagara Gorge and is the only place in Niagara Falls State Park, USA to view both the American and Horseshoe Falls at the same time. The Niagara Falls fireworks series returns this winter with a five-minute display every Friday and Saturday from November 16 to Dec. 21, 2024, as well as nightly from Dec. 27, 2024, to Jan. 5, 2025. All displays will occur at 8 p.m., except for two special displays at both 8:00 p.m. and Midnight on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31). Fireworks can be viewed at Niagara Falls State Park from one of the many viewing areas. All fireworks displays are subject to weather conditions.

Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District Glad your exchange students enjoyed an electric Maid of the Mist experience!

Ken-Ton was excited to host 23 French Exchange students in October as part of a foreign exchange partnership with St. François d'Assise High School in Western France. Our Kenmore West High School and Kenmore East High School students will be traveling to France in the spring to experience their own adventure!
