Last September, following the departure of the last guests of my 24th season as a B&B, who used Air BnB to book my accommodations, I was notified that I was being banned from Air BnB due to a complaint from my last guests, here to attend a freaktech festival. Of course, they just told me they were hear for a “get away weekend”. The complaint was that I had violated their “Community Safety Standards”. That’s it! No more info than that, considering that Air BnB had a whole page of “Safety Standards”. In comunicating with them, trying to figure out what the hell the complaint was, I was immediately confronted with the sense that I was dealing with Artificial Intelligence rather than actual company representatives. Their clear communication was that they served the customer who paid them rather than the accommodations purveyors who they used on their platform for profit. I never even informed what the complaint actually was. All I can say is, “ If you use Air BnB as a search platform for your business, beware of this WOKE AI entity who is dehumanizing the hospitality industry I’ve worked hard and proudly in to give our visitors a genuinely friendly lodging experience.”

I just made the decision to try marketing my accommodations with Airbnb, a big move for me. I now have all 3 rooms as well as the whole house listed with them. After the devastating season this year, I hope this shift in my advertising makes a big difference in 2021. My B&B presence on face book has really been just a place holder, but I appreciate everyone who has visited, liked or followed my page. Check out Meander In, Ninilchik!

Seeing wildlife is common here, whether at the Post Office or from the living room at Meander In but when you have a 3 mile view of the Ninilchik River valley you will see a lot more!

Today, as I was driving down Potter Valley Road, I spotted a bear....in a tree....asleep. And to complete the "Alaskan" scene, along came a train, a pickup truck, and a boat. Sometimes, timing is everything.
